This was a deck that i refinished years ago and maintained every 2 yrs. Then i guess walking through the Depot seeing Behr stains giving un godly warranties they thought to give it a try. Well they were thinking how to get longer than 2 yrs on a semi stain by tying this Behr acrylic crap. The before pic is the BEhr after 1 yr before it failed. This deck was finished with Gray Away Cedar Dark.

Great job as always Shane.

Shane What did you use to strip the old stain off, we had one a couple years ago that was Behr and it kicked our butt, we had to sand the entire deck and took way to long. We tried everything from David "Southern Stain and Seal" Stripper to Soy Gel and nothing worked. The stain that we removed was a solid that had failed in only 6 months on the walkway but the rest of the deck was ok. After that day we have turned down so many decks that needed stripping.

Thats awesome Shane! Did you say you don't do any sanding on your decks, it looks super smooth on the finished pics

Its Obvious to them you didn't know what your doing when you applied. LOL
It couldn't have possibly been the product. They have millions of satisfied customers and others attorneys are keeping them from getting sued.

I used sodium hydroxide with added booster that worked good but after a while the wood was so wet the stripper stops working.I had to strip a second time to remove even more of this crap. The customer understood how much of PITA this was and paid for extra cleaning. After all that stripping some sanding was needed

Thanks Charlie,
Well with this deck I had to whip out the old belt sander and palm sander to remove more of the old stain hanging on. This wood was only a year old so it was in great shape but pretty ugly PT pine.It didn't look so great after I brightened the first time.So when I stripped the second time I used some 12% then brightened that helped even everything out.

Yeah I agree but when Behr is marketing their products with the warranty they claim it's easy for homeowners to fall for it. I wonder how many homeowners actually file claims when their products fail. I think most just get their decks restored and just eat the loss from their crappy stain products

Great job as always Shane.

Thanks Chris!

I hope this is the worst deck I see this year or my PITA % is going up for sure!
