This is not a money question...

When I started my business in 2005 I had never used a pressure washer in my life. I was missing too much of my sons life and hated my job. I had just been transferred to Alabama and was trying to figure out what all this black stuff was that was growing on these beautiful homes. There seemed to be mold and algae everywhere. So I did a little homework quit my job and Gulf Coast Pressure Washing was born. From the 7th grade until he graduated I never missed another game,

Also being able to take a vacation and having good employees to keep things running and making money is very cool.

The day i drove up to a job we were doing and i saw my sign on the lawn, magnetics on the truck and my guys wearing shirts with my company name on it was extremely gratifying

Another time i distinctly recall was when i was bidding on a residential contracting job and was at the residence waiting in the living room. I over heard the husband telling the wife in the kitchen " Lets just go with these guys, they seem to have their act together" and then came out and gave a nice deposit

Moments that you dont forget

About 5 years ago I was washing a house in a gated community at the beach. The lady of the house came outside and smelled the bleach and started yelling that I was going to kill her plants. I assured her that everything was OK and I explained the process to her again. I got back to work and a few minutes later she was questioning the process again about the bleach. I addressed her concerns and once again got back to work. Then it happened again, so I told her that I was going to rinse the portion that I had done and was leaving. I was polite but I did not need the work that bad. As I was rinsing the house the husband came out and asked what the problem was and I explained the situation. He said she always acts like that and asked me to please finish. So I completed the work and collected the check.

Later the husband referred me to the HOA and have since washed several other houses from there referral. It was a great feeling to have succeeded to the point where I did not need every job and did not have to work for people that where rude and difficult to deal with.

I no longer take every job that comes along. While I have a long way to go I am now able walk away from jobs that I do not want to do.

Great posts guys!

Biggest business rush is between 2 different times.

First time was when I got called to a job for an auction company and found it full of heavy equipment, so full I was in shock for the first time. A very large company had gone bankrupt and there was 6 weeks of straight work for me.

Second time was this year, I was approached on a job because of my setup (Reclaim + Steam) to find another truck + 2 subs to do 6 weeks of really good pay work. I have always been the sub, not the one in charge, it was a rush to get everything up and going, but a bigger rush to keep in all going. I knew my subs good so very little worry there, but keeping everything together and watching the bill climb fast was a rush.

Everytime I clean something new for the first time...

Like when I found this site, met up with Doug Rucker. I thought I was going to have to rent a lift or a scaffold. Instead, he showed me how to clean it from the ground. I was amazed, honestly amazed.

Then is was removing the asphalt sealing...

Then it was the hotel rust removal job...

Most recently is was the DIY car wash bays...

I grow more and more confident each time I expand my resume of cleaning abilities...

Outside of the cleaning abilities and accomplishments, it's the look on the decision makers face when I educate them. I know what I'm talking about and know what I'm doing. I can't tell you how many times I've heard this phrase: "You definitely weren't the lowest bid, quite honestly the highest, but you gained my trust with how you represented yourself and the explanation of your process." - or something very close to that. HEARING THAT IS FRIGGIN' COOL...

I know you said it's not about the money, but paying rent, car notes, vacations, buying my wife things she wants vs. a need - that stuff is friggin' cool...

The bulk of my knowledge expansion started right here... Thanks to all contributors.

Bidding jobs is the biggest rush for me. I did a big job for the city this summer (A historic water tower/museum) that was reported on in local paper and they published a big color pic of me on the lift rinsing and creating a great before and after contrast. Free advertising!
