Surfactant and Detergent?

Hey Bira, If you've been using a dedicated pump system, What ratio of mix have you been using in the past and how well did it work? Did it clean quickly or does it seem to take forever?

Mike

He said he was averaging 3000sqft with 50 gallons of straight 13%.....
I asked for a walk through just to see if we could give him a pointer or two.
He seems to have the roof cleaning/pressure washing game figured out.

I saw that however, that can't be right. I've never heard of someone using straight SH.

To each their own, friend. He's found a method that works for him, and that's what's important.
I'd rather see a guy like him that teaches him self through hard work, blood, sweat & tears than see someone come around BS'ing people in an attempt to be spoon fed information.
There's a lot to be said for folks of true integrity.
Not so much for the other side of that spectrum. 🏼

If you aren't going to use a surfactant, then you would need straight SH to basically nuke the algae, mold or mildew. Playing with fire if you ask me. Turning on a sprinkler system isn't going to water down the fascia trim and house, as well as overspray on nearby ornamental trees, although it is the surfactant that spots leaves, straight sh contaminates the soil and burn the roots.

So, if you wouldn't mind... Run us through the step by step of what process you've been using up till now.

Well I go get SH and when I get to the job site I turn on my pump and turn the valve on to SH and let it run until SH starts coming out of it. While pump is cycling from water to SH I have the sprinklers running to wet the plants down. I then set up my ladder and pull out my hose. I then start spraying the roof. After the roof is sprayed I connect my pressure cleaning hose up to the tank and start watering the plants down some more while im on the ground waiting for the SH to do its job. Lastly I go back up to roof and rinse down the roof and any spots that didn't completely get cleaned. Then from the ground I rinse off the face of the gutter if the house has any and get the lip of the tile from the ground.

Well that is why i am asking these questions so I have a little more knowledge on better ways and safer way to do things.

Homemade chemical lance. It works very well and it's inexpensive to make. You don't have to worry about throwing it if you slip or something and if it breaks carry so extra couplers with you for a quick repair. I also made one double the size for steep roofs so I can get it from the bottom or the top. It's fairly easy to make let me know if u want help making it if u need it.

Now that made a difference!!! Hey, Tile roofs are basically non-existant here in the Mid-Atlantic. How do you walk a roof like that?

Don't you have a problem with runoff using straight SH? You should definitely check out roof snot. As the name implies it sticks to the surface better that just plain SH.

My next roof I will definitely try the snot or some dawn soap which i found out that a lot of people use it with it as well.

I usually start from one end and work myself to the opposite end starting from the top to bottom. On that picture i just did that section like that so i could get a before and after. I usually move horizontally and work my way down.
