Surface Cleaner Conversion ?

Has anyone had any luck or even tried to convert a surface cleaner for reclaim? I'm thinking of buying a cheapi, punching a hole for vac and trying it out. Any suggestions?

Won't work. You need a narrow band of vac intake around the perimeter of the cleaner to keep suction up. Just busting a hole in the top will allow too much air flow from above the surface that needs to be drawn on.

That is what the recovery cleaners are, right? They seem to be a surface cleaner with 1, 2 or 4 holes for vacuum hose, except the mosmatic which has the double shell with the continuos vacuum edge. Seems like there's room for some more engineering. The type of skirt around the edge could be a factor. Maybe it's just a matter of how much vacuum you pull through it.

They all have the inner shell. They are pretty simple in concept, once you see it.

You really cannot see one in a picture. If you are ever up this way, feel free to give me a call. I have two of them.

I was reading a post here about mosmatic having the patent on the double shell design. They all have a continuous suction around the edge? Scott I will take you up on that, I have a vacuum and I need to buy/make the whirlygig. I'm thinking of making it so I can have exactly what I want. How about the swabby with the fan blades attatched to the spraybar? Looks interesting.

Do you have to slow down to catch all the water?

Dual shell could be able to be done away with if skirt is of a bristle type with proper spacing or tightness so that the right amount of airflow is allowed in. But you know what this may cause is a situation of the water being drawn back into the cleaning or nozzle area. Don't know about you guys but sometimes when water is not allowed out the way or if bar and nozzles are too low your shooting through a puddle of water. Then again, maybe with addition of any type of vacuum there would be no puddling possable whatsoever. It does all pretty much vaporize when hitting the crete for some amount of time before flowing out...
But anyway, properly done the circle of a surfacer would be no different then a sqweegie off a wet vac or autoscrubber. My scrubber for instance is about 34" sqweegie. They usually allow air in via tiny slots in the rubber or in some cases the incoming air is just from the two ends. Vacuuming don't work in any situation less the airflow is right.
