Steam Cleaner Question

Have any of you used one of those as seen on tv hand held steamers to clean fire supression cables? Would it work?

My lady once showed up at a job with one of those..... I havn't laughed so hard in years....it took forever to heat up and was so tiny and cute....and did nothing at all. As for the links I hit with chem and shot 240 degree water comes clean every time. My unit is a PW/steam cleaner.. or just get a steamer nozzle..I love mine

Yeah Lou my machine is capable of doing that I was looking for something with lower pressure for some tight spots.

Have you tried to turn down the pressure on your machine. I adjust the pressure using the unloader valve to the point the burner comes on. I use chemical(hot chemical can melt some links) and hit the cable and links directly. Never had any problems as of yet, dont know the psi but its not much. When I first started cleaning I cleaned inside with 4000 psi, to much water to much pressure, now I clean with minimal pressure its just easier.

I cant adjust my machine It's a Tuff skid 3500 psi 5 gpm there is not a throtle adjustment lever either.

You can use an adjustable nozzle or even a larger orfice. If you use a big enough orfice you can draw chem with a 0 pattern at low pressure.

A ballvalve works great to reduce pressure and flow for the areas that you need to be gentle with!

I prefer a dual lance, doesn't help with the gpm, but is the eaiest way to adjust pressure.

I've changed hundreds of links for my familys service co. I only clean hoods now. Most fussible links are rated 360 degree or better. Don't worry about melting the link, be more concerned with blowing it off with to much psi. Look & see if the service co is changing the links once a yr. ALL fussible links have dates stamped on them. If the service co is not changing them(alot don't) ansul is one of the worst for cable fray. As to the unloader, I tried adjusting by the unloader & I was replacing my unloaders 90 days later. Trial & error, don't do it now just use a bigger orfice tip is easy.
