You also have to remember to get placards (diamond signs) and put on the outside of the trailer or tuck if you are above that reportable quantity as well. As well your driver has to have the correct license and endorsements to haul such materials if needed. Generally, however, the reportable quantitys of such liquids/chemicals are so large that a contractor would never need to carry that much, unless he was planning on doing a months worth of work in a week.
Placards & MSDS are not the only thing most of us dont think about. Many of us run around with these huge trailers without increasing the total GVW of our registration. Most heavy duty pick ups GVW are right under 10,000 lbs. Add a 12,000 lb trailer to your hitch and now you are severly over weight by DOT rules, because you have to add the weight of your truck and trailer in combination as a total GVW. I have a Registration for my truck @ 26,000 GVW in order to be legal to tow at that weight, Same as a Semi it is the combination of the entire load.
