Bid a project late last year, as part of the bid called local water utility to ensure we could get a hydrant meter, what the deposit and rates were, etc. no problem.
Get the contract, job starts next Tuesday and call to set up appointment to pick up meter.
Sorry we don't give meters to power washers. Went all the way up to the director, nope we won't do it only construction, filling pools etc.
What garbage, NJ always top of the ranks in places where it's difficult to conduct business, crap like this is why.
Another state wide utility co even worse. I have 2 meters out from 2 of their offices for 2 jobs we are working. Go to the 3rd seperate office (each one covers a specific geographic area) to get a meter for a 3rd job for next week and they tell me I need to hire a cop to watch the meter (at $60 per hr).
I ask why, they tell me due to 9/11, I ask what does that mean? To ensure the safety of the water supply. I say you understand that any hydrant can be accessed with a pipe wrench right, and the meter has nothing to do with it?
Yes but that's the policy and I have to go by policy. I ask so you agree that it doesn't make any sense right? He answers, that's the policy and I have to go by policy. I tell him I need some names and numbers of higher ups to start writing some letters. He says you start writing letters you may never get to use a hydrant.
I have a sibling who knows this utilities EVP, they sent an email to him late yesterday, waiting for a response.
