Sodium Hydroxide supplier

I need a new supplier for sodium hydroxide, dry beads. Preferably someone who is more reliable than Knight Enterprises in Illinois.

Not to Hi-Jack your thread.... but what % of sodium hydroxide is your chemical once you make the mix?

I would guess around 50%, but I have never used the beads. I buy mine pre-mixed (liquid) from a local chemical company. 1 Galon = $4

I dunno. I just add a scoop of dry sodium hydroxide in a 3 gallon bucket of water. I stir it w/a stick, add more chemical until it looks right. On a char broiler hood I'll add more. On a chinese hood I'll add chemical until the saturation point is reached using warm water. Then I dump in some CardiaBlast liquid. The result is so strong that the skin on the back of your hand will bleed if you splash the mixture on yourself. Then is is almost strong enough to work on chinese grease.

Is the dry sodium hydroxide flake made to the same strength? Or does some have more filler in it?

Doug drop me an e-mail. I use it quite a bbit and could ship it to you most likely cheaper than you get it from the chemistry store. I get a good rate because I buy a fair amount. How much do you use?

OK, so I am paying $4/gal. Each gallon does about 4-5 hoods (it is mixed 1:5) which is ~ $1 per hood.

Doesn't seem that beads would be better, unless the percentage was over 40% using the beads / flakes.

I am going to try the Dawn in my mix though and see if that dose any better. The stuff I use seems to cut almost anything. Apply, let stand for 10-15 minutes and wash at 3000 psi at around 150*. About 10-15% of the hood has to be resprayed and rewashed if there is heavy deposits / chinese restraunts. VERY VERY little scraping, mainly just the areas that you dont want to spray with a pressure washer.

I'm just trying to get an idea if beads would work better than what I am currently using.

Are you running the restaurant's hot water thru a cold water machine? 150 seems low for a skid.

Doug, give Cardinal a call - I hear they have developed a product that's stronger than Cardiblast. Are you using that Knight chem that's orange and turns green? I have some of that and it's useless as far I am concerned.

We have 3 HydroTek washers (all mounted inside enclosed trailers) that are around 230-250*

The stuff form Knight was a light orange color and it did turn green. It was a good cleaner, better than Bonzai and much cheaper. I will call Cardinal and see what they might have. I like the Cardi Blast, but it is more expensive. They also have a good polish that I use.

I have never used the flake, just the beads. They do have an attraction to water/moisture, but I keep the plastic bag wrapped & moisture is not a real problem.

Larry, I usually buy a 500 # drum and get a year out of it. How much do you use when washing vehicles and houses? You're in Salem?

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't pressure washing turn into steam cleaning when the water temp reaches 213*? and at that temperature the pressure drops dramatically? We have machines that are capable of 230 -250* but none that can run at that temp and keep pressure up to spec.

Corrrect, as far as I know.

Yes doug I am in Salem. I get my NaOH from Cascade Columbia Chemicals Supply in Sherwood. I pay .20 cents a pound for 99.9% beads in 50# bags, although they currently have a $25.00 fuel surcharge on all invoices. Does Mt. Hood chemical deliver to the Bend area? They also have it but they were a little more expensive than Cascade. If I can help you out just let me know.

How do you mix it, Douglas, the directions call for a cup of powder per gallon of water. I don't have much luck with it. When done I usually end up with a clump of powder at the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket. Never thought of adding Cardiblast to it. S'pose I could add NAOH beads to heat it up. You are right, Knight does make a great SS polish.

David , Univar.com is a accounting firm, atleast thats what im getting when searching on it ?

How much is everyone paying for Sodioum Hydroxide/Caustic?

Univar 800-659-5908 not sure of the web address. But this number is good.
