Hey Guy`s
I have a 16 HP Vanguard engine on my unit. My engine repair skills aint what they should be. So I need your help. I`ve gone through several (3 to be exact) starter solenoid`s in one year. What causes these things to burn out?
Symptoms: Turn key, "click,click,click,click"----- nothing.
Turn key again------- nothing.
I can still start it manually(pull starter).
I can also start it by jumping acroos the posts on the solenoid.
I know how to replace it, but I would like to know what`s causing it to go bad.
Again, my engine repair skills are not what they should be, I`m looking into taking some classes for this. So any input would be helpfull. Thanks guys.

starter solenoid

Glabarta, Take your solenoid off and take it to your local auto parts dealer. Match it up to an older Ford 12 volt. They are much more heavy duty. The base might be a little different but you can adapt it. This will solve your problem.
Also make sure all connections are good, clean and tight. Even the ground lug. A bad or loose connection will give the symptom of a bad solenoid.

I've been starting one of my washers that way for well over a year now............I keep meaning to do what Michael was talking about, but it hasn't happened yet......
