This post is for the new guys/gals that think " its no big deal ". I was recently working a job and was way running behind and just wanted to get it over with. this is 1 minutes worth of a 1 to 10 mix of 121/2 sh and water with 8 ounces of roof snot. with five minutes of rinsing after heres the end result. these chems are a necessary evil, we need them but we must not mess with them.

Bleach SH or caustic SH? Were you soaking in it or just got it on you? What does the roof snot do as far as skin?

bleach, my old chem pump sprang a leak at the handle. and i just wanted to finish. I really didnt think this would happen, hence my "no big deal" attitude. Im sure the roof snot wasnt the issue i use it all the time with no effects like this.

Ouch! Been there done that. Mostly when downstreaming with a leaky quick disconnect. My arms, legs, shoulders, belly. The worst is when it soaks into your clothes and continues to burn that one area of skin. Try getting a hold of some Silver Sulfadiazine cream. The stuff works miracles and wont leave a scar. Its Prescription strength and you do need a prescription for it. Maybe someone you know may have some though.

Ron, I went and looked at the jar I have and edited my post. I had spelled it wrong. It has to be prescribed by a doctor. They may have something similar over the counter. I would ask the pharmacist. The jar I have is from back in 2006. Did the same thing to my arms and ended up with 2 nd degree burns and it got infected. Had to to to the ER after suffering for almost two weeks. I figured it would heal on its own but it never did.

Sorry to see this, Steven. Safety first.. no matter what we do. Sometimes accidents happen though even when you try your best. Thanks for sharing. Every job has its law of diminishing returns but even with the potential risks with chemical usage I think the money is quite worth it. I've gotten it a few times in the past too.

Steven, did your hand heal up ok? did those burns leave scars?

So that was just SH? I've stuck my fingers in straight 12% before with no issues?

Keep you hand in the 12% for 3 mins and don't pull out see what it looks like, I did the same thing two year ago wanted to get the day done and had a leaking gun had it on Hands and down arm to elbow

Man that must have hurt!

I won't spray chems or stain without these......SL-665160.jpg

I prefer the heavier cotton lined pvc gloves when doing roof work. Reason is you can turn them up to form a cuff so that chem doesn't run down your arm when spraying a roof from the gutter line.
