Hey guys, I can get a 2003 Ford F 450 extra cab short flat bed for 8000.00
It has 200,000 miles, all highway, know this for a fact.
it is super clean, and a 4 door, white too.
What do ya think, it has a diesel automatic, miles per gallon who knows ?
Gotta decide soon guys, HELP

IMO, avoid the 6.0L diesel like the plague! Look for the 7.3L, that was a good engine.

Tell them to throw in one of those pine tree air freshners, and you'll do it. :D

Sounds like a tuneup is needed, you people should get better mileage than that I would think.

I average 7-8mpg on the highway on my Big Bucket Truck and it weighs 26,820 pounds.

My 05' Dodge 2500 Quadcab Longbed Cummins gets 22-25 on the highway without the trailer but with my trailer (4000 pounds) I get from 14-18mpg.

It is really a great truck and I have taken it out of state a dozen times and it is comfortable.

Chris, I would take that truck to a reputable Diesel Mechanic Shop and have them take a good look at it and do some tests if you are serious about it.

That is the kind of truck I am looking for to make a flatbed rig out of.

My dad has a F450 that he made into a chipper truck and it holds a lot of weight and is good except the one time that he had to change out the intake manifold on that V-10 engine.

Thank God they aren't all bad.
Unlike Ash I get about 17 in city 21 highway and 14 with the rig highway or city.

My nieghbor has a 6.0L in his F-450, and that damn thing is in the shop all the time! It is something electronics and/or engine related everytime. Give me a good old 12 valve Cummins, and I'd be happy. (of course I don't really have a need for a truck that big)

Having sold Ford trucks, i can telll you that the 6 liters had they're problems. Some were fine, others were in the shop alot (due to electronics interfacing with the turbo and engine-like chris said) I like the 6 liter. It is more quiet and the turbo has alot more accelerating speed than the 7.3 's. WE operate currently with a 7.3 and its great. My preference however, would be for a 6L that i know did not have problems. Also you will find more problems in the one's that are older (like the first year--I believe that was 2002 or 2003)

It seems to be a good deal, have a mechanic check it out before buying.

This IS a 6.0
Dam, it is SUCH a nice, lean truck, and idles so purty.
But the engine is a known problem.
This one has a new turbo, idler pulley, and alternator.
The old boy who has this truck is a christian.
This truck was dumped on him, long story, because he co signed for it.
He just spent a bunch at the Ford Dealer Gator Ford in Tampa.
Said he wanted it right before he sold it, because that was the Godly thing to do!
How BAD can a 6.0 be ?
This truck has 200,000 miles.
My old Isuzu NPR was reliable as hell, in between transmissions
* grand is CHEAP for a 2003 F 450 ext cab 4 door.
AND, it has the short Flatbed.
Atually, it has a small fifth wheel to haul Pine Straw
WTF is Pine Straw used for , except getting into gutters, making roof cleaners mad

Thank God they aren't all bad.

Do YOU have a 6.0 Scott ?

My f350 6.0 gets 12 mpg going downhill with the wind blowing, mirrors folded in, oh yea if it is turned off.
C'mon Ash, yuo are are scarin me ?
Has YOUR 6.0 been reliable, what year ?

Sounds like you like it a lot. Some were lemons some not.
Just buy it.

6.0 L + 200,000 miles I would have to pass, $8000.00 sounds like a lot for a work truck with that many miles. I know they are road miles but they are still miles.

Ever LOOK at what a 2003 F 450 4 door flatbed goes for ?
8 grand is cheap, I think ?

At 8 grand, it is a bargain, new turbo, injectors, great shape too.
Hey, it went 200,000.00 miles already, the 6.0 can't be ALL that bad, or CAN it
I Understand aftermarket
