SHotgun Fungus

Has anyone found anything that will take off the shotgun fungus on siding that comes from mulch.

My church is covered with it up about 10 to 15 feet. I have not seen too many houses with it.

I have tried many different things and couldn't get it off. Even if you scrape it off it still leaves a stain behind. I have looked all over the internet about it and what I come up with is that it is possible to remove it if you catch it whithin 2 to 3 weeks. They say to use very hot water and high pressure but that could damage some surfaces. They also say you can try to remove it with steel wool but that is time consuming and could damage the surface by scratching it.

At this time, I dont think there is any miracle cure. Prevention is what you need to focus on. Like was said above, you're in good shape if you catch it quick, other then that, you can either paint the church black, or just stand back 20 feet at all times.........

Good luck.

Shotgun Fungus, aka Artillery Fungus (Sphaerobolus stellatus)

Hey Lenny, The best thing I've found for this stuff is scotch-brite pads and alot of elbow grease. LOL. Go to Google and do a search on Artillery Fungus and you can get some info. PENN STATE's web site might help.

yep I copied some of Chris's text to get all the key words I need , anyone(not in my area) is free to copy any of my stuff - except for my pics.

I can get it but I would rather not ost it ,give me a shout and I will fill you in

the reason I am not posting it is because of the harsh chems that have to be used and I dont want someone to run out and try to spray and kill everything on someones home and blame me

Try this....Artillery Fungus
Use SafeRestore straight. Spray on two applications without rinsing between applications and finish by rinsing with a hose or pressure washer.
WORKS FOR ME

Hey guys, I don't know if this is the same thing, but I ran into this for the first time and I do not know how to clean it. In this Parking structure there was this white substance coming from the cinder block. I assume it was chemicals ( Substance such as lime etc) from the cinder block. We washed it with extreme heat. Washed away until the next day and there it was again. Any suggestions?

Effloresence is most likely what you were dealing with Jim.You need to use and acid to remove it from the surface and seal to prevent it returning.

and also, do not saturate the bricks too much, water is what causes them to "bleed"
look up Prosoco. products like Sure Kleen 600 or Vanitrol
