I will take better rankings anyway I can get them.
Makes me wonder why my results change so much then if they are onlu updating once. A month.
I did change the anchor text on my forum signatures to the more searched keywords if that could have anything to do with it.

Google crawl sites with alot of traffic and activity alot more frequently. So sites like this forum and facebook, news sites, etc may get crawled as often as everyday looking for new content and it will be updated to the google databases much more quickly so if you changed your signature link that is a good possible explanation why you have moved up.

Good advice here. A citation is "your business address and phone number" written exactly as it appears on your Google map listing.

eg:

123 example st
555 777 6666

The more citations you have on various websites all over the web, the more Google deem you to be relevant and thus will rank you highly in Google Places.
Also the closer you live to the city center, the better.
If you are trying to rank highly for a major city but you live miles away in a smaller city, you should consider using an address in the city you are trying to rank for. A friend or family member or you can even you the post offices address if you have a mail box there, however do not use the PO Box itself as the Address. Also get customer reviews on Google Places itself and on sites such as Kudzu. You will need to encourage your customers to write and post reviews, because it is very hard to get them otherwise.
