Selling

-Ive was stiffed by a little old lady for a $100 driveway a couple summers ago.

-This year I was shorted $200 on a $4500 job by a person from another country. I was glad to be paid when that was all said and done.

-I like the idea of securing their spot with a cc #. Ive been giving thought of making a deposit standard but only using it for those who seem shady or large jobs. Waiving it for everyone else to let them know I trust them.

-To the OP.... Im for all the sales learning I can get. Rons classes at the RTs are a tease.

Let me ask you guys this. For those who take CC info as a safeguard what are the legal steps behind it?
Obviously something would have to be signed to approve authorization.
What else?
Do you just take the CC info and hold it until the job is completed or authorize a certain percent as a deposit or to make sure the card is legit?

Please explain.

Thank you.

There is a law that protects us. Its called theft of services. I have threatened to call the police several times on homeowners that would want to bargain my price after we did the work. I wouldnt have minded it if it was before the work. But after just tells me they dont want to pay. The local police once laughed when I talked to them beause they said they didnt even know that law existed. At one point I told the homeowner I would oly accept cash. I didnt want her to have the ability to bounce a check on me. But again, laws in this state are that if you bounce 3 checks its a felony. We had this problem with one of our rental properties last month and when I told them I would be taking them to court for a felony things changed quickly.

I guess what I am saying here guys is know your laws. Most of the time you can prevent anything from happening know matter what or how you are getting your money. Ask me about Service Magic...LOL

There have been a few threads about Service Magic, most of them are bad. There are a few guys that have had good luck with them but most have had nothing but bad leads and got jerked around.

OK short version on Service Magic. Lady calls SM. We get the lead. I go out and she tells me we cant use her water cause she is on a well. No biggy. She complains when we show up with a BIG trailer (16 ft). We go to work. She had the home for 27 yrs and never had the house washed. I explained the expectations of the job etc...she had burn marks on the siding from a pipe coming out of the home. She also had very fragile paint on the concrete base of the home. Which I told her we would clean at a very low pressure (and did). Unfortunately for her the mold had created a green tint to the white paint. So we finish. Her and her husband watched us the whole time and was talking to me or my helper that day. When we finished I explained things and told her to do a walk around. She came back smiling and said the house never looked so good. Great!!! Another satisfied customer. 4 days later I get an email saying she felt like she only got 300$ worth of the 400$ house wash. So I called and it wasnt a very good cooperating conversation... SM calls me and says she put a complaint in with them. I explained everything to them and they said they would get back to me. They call me 2 months later and tell me I should go do her home again for free...NO. Sorry. Maybe I was wrong here but I dont see how that would make things right. Then they said they would call me back again. They didnt call but they took 400$ dollars out of my checking account to satisfy her. They never got pictures from me. They never got our SIGNED agreed contract. I called them and told them what on Gods green earth gives them the right to be judge jury and executioner? If they want to do that then thats fine. I will be on them like fly on S***. Told them my attorney would be calling in an hour. (he never called) But all of a sudden I got a manager on the line and they reimbursed me.

Needless to say I will never go with SM again...and be careful cause when you sign up they have your account info...

I've been using Service Magic for 1 year stopped this month not a good experience for me... money spent on leads exceeded money brought in. The percentage of bad leads was over 50%,,

Ron,
Everyone here most likely needs a refresher class on selling from time to time and I remember you saying you could teach anyone to sell. I personally like to learn from people who are successful and not try to re invent the wheel. I do preety good selling but I know I allways can learn more. Would you be interested in video casting maybe a few classes over the winter?? Please??? Think about it.
