SEAL BEACH — A Seal Beach Jack In The Box is shut down today after an early-morning blaze ripped through its storage area, badly burning the inside of the fast-food restaurant.
Flames broke out in the rear of the Jack In The Box in the 800 block of Pacific Coast Highway at about 1:45 a.m., causing extensive heat and smoke damage to the entire restaurant before firefighters could snuff out the fire, said Capt. Stephen Miller of the Orange County Fire Authority.
Twenty-six firefighters worked for 30 minutes to put out the fire. No one was injured. Damage was estimated to be about $200,000, Miller said.
The Jack In The Box will remain closed until county health officials say it is safe for food to be prepared in the smoke-damaged building.
Investigators are shifting through the ashes to see what touched off the blaze.
