Rusted fittings an issue?

Do you guys use stainless steel fittings or stick with the steel fittings? For those that use the steel fittings....has the rust ever been an issue?

I've used stainless and brass, both rust and require replacing from time to time. Not sure if I've tried the steel though. Never been offered it as far as I know

I will never buy anything but stainless...but some of them still get rusted inside. The one on my xjet comes to mind. The little bearings inside are rusted. Maybe I got a cheapo chinese version.

The steel rust, the brass corrode but last a while, the stainless steel rusts also but the little metal bearings/bb's inside the coupler rust soon so the whole coupler needs to be replaced.

I am guessing that the high-dollar plugs and couplers use higher grade of stainless steel so you will probably get more time out of them, maybe.

I don't buy those because down here all stainless steel rusts so for me I just replace the rusty parts when I cannot use them anymore.

Our salt-air, high humidity, Texas heat, living on the Gulf of Mexico, etc.... are the key players in the quick rusting of the metal stuff.

If you sanded down some metal, you will see flast rust in less than 30 minutes, sometimes as fast as 5 minutes, it is just how it is down here so you adapt.

I always use F9. My stainless steel couplers and nozzles rust so fast that I have to do it every week or two

It doesn't matter what type I use, they all rust. It's a maintenance thing for me is all.

Once a week maint. Wire brush light oil spray.

Throw away part. When they stop working, replace and throw in the brass scrap.

Just the cost of running a business, I agree with David's post. Keep a stock of high wear parts, we have bins full of them.

Let me clarify....I meant the all the fittings to include the ones on the pump and the end of your hoses.....not just the QC and plugs. Thanks.

I would love to have hoses made with stainless ends, but they're like $40 or $50 its ridiculous. Everywhere else I go stainless, into the pump etc. Those hydraulic fittings really corrode with water.

all stainless steel rusts

316 stainless (used most commonly on boats) has the highest resistance to pitting corrosion, even in chloride environments

304 and 306 stainless, does rust but is more commonly use because of its higher tensile strength

Some 316 pressure fittings are available.

The ones on the pump can be changed out or cleaned up, depending on condition. As far as the ends of the pressure hoses, I take mine to a local company called hose power. Usually the hose will break before the ends go bad, but i check them while I'm there and have them replaced as needed.
Here is about 300 ft that needs repair.
