Rust on Driveway

I might be getting a job for a driveway. It has rust on it from the gutters on the fellows house.

He asked me if it is possible to remove it. I told him "anything is possible" and I'd see what I can find out.

I've heard a couple of things for rust. I heard someone mention "Oxalic Acid" but remember them mentioning it leaving spots. I saw also something about Lysol??? What if I was to pour straight up Bleach on it and let it soak in? Or how about Muriatic Acid?

If there are any suggestions let me know.

Definitely no muriatic unless you are sure sure sure about what you're doing with it. A little bit too long and you've permanently etched a driveway - too short and you've wasted your money. Squirtgun is right - oxalic is your best bet for making the rust stain either go completely away or at least dramatically lighten it. YOU WILL HAVE TO DO THE WHOLE THING or you'll have a big clean white spot.

This may be a stupid question, but do you apply the acid before cleaning or after for the rust, or both? I have a driveway to do tomorrow. There are a few minor rust stains, but I mainly want to use the oxalic to brighten it.

Where would you find Oxalix Acid at? Will Home Depot or Lowes carry it? If not what stores would carry it.

And how should I apply it. Normally what I will do is edge the driveway. Wet it down. Apply my chemical then pressure wash. With bleach after I pressure wash I spray one more layer down and let it soak in.

appreciate the help.

SunBrite will have it. If you have to do the home improvement store thing, it's going to be packaged as a deck brightener/cleaner....just check the ingredients. You will be paying for a lot of filler if you go that route - your best chemical for your money will be with SunBrite, especially since you're right there at them.
