Rust on Brick

Customer has rust stains on brick from sprinkler system. Told him that I would like to try a test spot with oxalic acid. He was concerned for his dogs and asked I do not use any harsh chemicals. I thought about Safe Restore, but have not used it, I believe that is an acid as well??? Any ideas what I could use that is more eco friendly.

Depending on how large the area is, I would try the Oxalic, with pump up, and a little scrubbing action and rinse.

after you use enough water to rinse, I dont think the dogs will have any affects.

Tell him spinach, rhubarb and broccoli all contain oxalic acid. It's also the main part of kidney stones. Doesn't get more "natural" than that. Just rinse like crazy. It can be pretty bad while evaporating. Just like most other things we use don't contact the skin and don't breath it.

People get kooky over a fancy name even ascorbic acid (vitamin C).

He has to decide if he wants it clean or not.

I usually prefer using Safe Restore because it is safer. It is a highly buffered form of HCL. If I do not have a cut on my hand, then I could pour some in my palm and it would tingle but it would not burn me. Sometimes it will not get heavy stains out of concrete.

Oxalic Acid is a poison and it is safe so long as you treat it with respect for what it is. With Ox you have to clean the entire area or you will see a difference in color.
