Nice site Russ.Anybody want to pick at mine?Disregard the amateur deck pictures.I'm trying to get away from wood altogether.I'm going to make some changes including adding more to the commercial page before we hit the 07 phone books and would appreciate any input.
Dustin, what I am going to say, I say with Love, because I like you.
Your graphics are wonderful, but your TEXT is way too short.

Your keywords are way too many, and your keyword density leaves much to be desired.

A pretty girl is no good if she never leaves the house ?
If no one can find or see your site, who cares how nice it is ?

Here is a report on your site from my web site optimizer program

After this optimization report, we will have a look at a properly text optimized web site, ok ?

NOT to show you that I am "smarter" then you, because I am not, but I have a very helpful tool, and years of experience using it.

The site Is mine, and is number two in the world on Google for the search term "Singles Group", a VERY crowded and competitive field

Another Suggestion ?

Nice site Russ.Anybody want to pick at mine?Disregard the amateur deck pictures.I'm trying to get away from wood altogether.I'm going to make some changes including adding more to the commercial page before we hit the 07 phone books and would appreciate any input.

Dustin, where is your LINKS page ?
You will want to exchange links with non competitive fellow cleaners, and you need somewhere to put the links ?

Dustin,

Here are my thoughts. First, you and Tim Aselton should go into business together and open up a photography studio!! Seriously! You guys take some tight photos.

re: What Apple was saying. IMO, what ranks a site well, and what makes a site "good", can be polar opposites. I don't like Apples site(s). Waaay too much info for to want to read and digest. Being said, he's done what it takes to rank well. Aselton's is on the border for me---the brink of too much info, but it is well-balanced with lots of photos and a nice personal touch. But I like yours the best. Very simple, says what needs to be said, GREAT pics, and lots of them. Everything about it works well IMO.

So you have to consider how you site will be utilized. Will your locals type in "roof wash" into google and that's how you hope they'll find you--or is your website something for a guy that has received a postcard to look at to find out more info about your Co?? For me, about 50% of my work comes from online, but my site is listed on search sites that rank well......so I'm not terribly worried about a high ranking. I'm thinking about impressing someone with a great site (mines just fair imo).

Other thing----re: links. Again, like Apple said, helps you to rank. BUT---IMO, it runs people away from YOU!! .....So they are looking at Palmetto Cleaning, very interested, and see the "Links" page. Let's say, for instance, you have a link to the PWNA, to show credibility. They click through....and all of sudden realize they can input their location and find other contractors as well. "....Honey, who was that company we were just looking at?? Oh well...here's another washing outfit just down the road from us. Call them tomorrow." That is my problem with links--they drive you away from who got you there in the first place!! I'm a selfish jerk:)

Thanks Chris,I'm going add more meat to the text and get the Mrs to add a links page.
That would be wise Dustin, and link, link, link only to relevant pages.

What is a relevant page ?
Someone having the same keywords as yours!

So, any site that does roofing, cleaning, washing, get the picture ?

I THINK I already have you linked to us, don't I ?

You should place a link back to us because Google "see;s" us as an important site.

Google looks at BOTH your incoming and outgoing links in determining where you wind up in the search results.

Cut down the keywords too Dustin, people are not going to search for building washing in wherever you are.

They will simply enter, pressure cleaning Charleston south Carolina.

Too many keywords confuses a search engine, forget all about the licensed insured Dustin Hoffman crap, THINK like a customer looking for you, and load up on those keywords!

You need your site to be indexed, and that takes text!

As a rule, never repeat your keywords more then every 6 to 8 times in a sentence.

Wow, very nice website Tim. I probably read 35-50% of it, reasonably close, and didn't see anything---proper punctuation, everhything. One small thing w/ quotation marks being on the wrong side of the period---but I'm not sure if I'm right about that or not, I'll have to ask my mom (very good english teacher). I'll look at yours in a little while Russ,

oh man dont pick mine my punctuation stinks !!!!!!

Yeah, gotta be careful with that, but here is the flip side.
Not only increased popularity, but showing you have nothing to hide as far as being afraid of the competition ?

I don't like my site either!

But .... when you are number two in the world, you don't DARE change it.

I was number one for many years before I set about on my offer to help others by giving them a link to a number one site.

This has caused me to "fall" to number two.

The reason is that the sites I have linked to are not really relevant sites for roof cleaning, mostly pressure washing, or power washing, or wood, decks, etc.

Since I am "telling" Google that I am a site all about roof cleaning, then it finds out I am "lying" when it See's all those one way links about pressure washing, deck cleaning, power washing, etc, etc, Google gets pissed and gives me a slight penalty.

This is why I am looking at a program to notify each and every one of my links to at least recriprocate.

A non relevant reciprocal link is "forgiven" by Google, and seen merely as an attempt to boost ranking.

Google can forgive that!

But, Google will not forgive you telling it you are a roof cleaning site, then misleading someone into a non relevant link.

We have all had this happen to us, searching for something, and being re directed or misled to something completely different.

Google does not play this chit.

Now, back to my site, it sucks, way too much info.

But guess what, no one really reads it anyway!

My site was designed with one purpose in mind, to be the worlds number one roof cleaning web site in search results.

It has succeeded, and actually there is some good info on roof shingles, etc.

What really happens is that we come up first, people see our bullets, and that magic picture, and they call.

My closing ratio is very high, and we loose very few sales to lower priced competitors.

With all due respect to before and after pictures, seeing a picture of a company's name on a bank sign is a picture few competitors can match ?

And, in the beginning, before and after pictures, and pictures of our trucks were all I had to use.

Those are called our bullets, but now I have a rifle, and I worked hard for it, and use it in all my advertising.

Like you Jon, most of our business is NOT from any ad's, OR our website.

We have JUST been cleaning roofs for so long that we have the "name" in our area.

I think it is a mistake for any company to depend on ad's OR a website for survival.

You MUST be able to sell and network, or you will soon be gone.

This is a cutthroat, competitive business, easy to get into, but hard to succeed in, and new competitors are around every corner.

When I started, I had to learn all the stuff I "preach" for myself.

I was my one, and only "teacher".

Now, someone can get almost my whole life's work, and that of others, simply by reading these boards.

This will, and already has, spawned competition the likes of which we have never seen before.

I must admit, I stopped helping people for a number of years because of it.

However, in my absence, several new "teacher's" appeared, and i soon realized that the information age was upon us, like it or not ?

So, I reasessed my feelings, and decided to start teaching again.

It was my Son who talked me into it!

He said "Dad, look at all these people being misled, and we can help them".

I said "Why Son, so they can cut our throats" ?

Then, if you believe in wisdom from the mouth of babes, he said " Dad, this is a tough business, and many won't make it.
IF we help people, and they do not make it, perhaps the local ones will remember how the nice people at Apple helped them out, and send us their old customers if they fail" ?

Jon, it was my Boy who changed my heart.

I was DONE helping out people after seeing a full blown Apple pump and tank set up doing roofs for 100 dollars a piece in a local subdivision!

I was out of uniform, and my truck was on the next block that day.

I walked up to the greaseballs and said "nice setup"

In a Spanish accent the greaseball said "Quono man, it's an Apple style set up, I learn about it on the Delco Internet".

"Look man, it's a gotta the big azz hose too, and the second pump to make fast cleaning so I can undercut anyone"!

He asked IF i was "in the business" ?

I told him "No, I was a lawn guy"

He said he used to be a lawn guy, but then he reads the Internet!

I just turned, walked away, went home, and vowed never again to teach anyone anything, LOL

Wow, very good point Chris about nobody reading it. Never thought of it that way. Probably very true, they just find the site, see the main pics, phone number, description of service, name recognition, and PHONE CALL. I never would have looked at it that way. Re: lots of good info on your site---LOL, no doubt!! I'm sure it is loaded down with anything anyone would want to know concerning a roof---but I just could never imagine a HO wanting to read it----but you've addressed that.

Yep, googled "roof cleaning" and Apple is #2. #1 goes to (drumroll).........PITCHWITCH???? Seriously?? The 4th one had a cool product IMO, Florida Roof Restoration i believe. They clean, and apply a paint-like coating to refresh the appearance for metal, tiles, etc. Looked nice. Alright Rusty, checking out your site next.

Also really good pics, Russ. Hands down, (obviously just my opinion) the thing I disliked the most was that everything was written in all caps. That makes things VERY hard to read......and you also cannot put EMPHASIS on a WORD when you WANT TO!! To me, it seemed like it needed a woman's touch. It seems really HARD.....all black, orange type, red type, etc.....felt more like a Biker's site. Compare the "feel" of yours to Dustin's....you'll see what I mean. Corrections?? Yeah, but small enough (probably fiver per page) that I'd worry about the other stuff first..especially the all-caps. Personally, I'd remove about 2/3 of the text. I definitely think you could convey everything you are trying to get across with a lot less words. Just my opinion---probably worth twice as much as your paid for it:)

.....If you'd like, I'll re-write one of the pages the way I think it should be and see if it is helpful. YOu may not like the improvements I'd make---it may not sound/feel like "you".

My Girlfriend HEARD me say something about Swapping
