Running with Throttle Down - Effect on Engine

Wiz - have seen a couple of posts regarding running machine at lower throttle. What impact does this have on the engine?

Related question - is it ok to run carborator cleaner through these type of engines?

Finally, what is the effect of running the equipment at full throttle and pressure (ie. unloader in highest position) and using a ball valve at the gun to temporarily reduce pressure? I have been doing this to reduce pressure on my X Jet.

I have not seen any problems running at the lower throttle rating. As far as the unloader goes it will unload at the higher rating but the engine won't care because it is just for a second at -0- GPM.

Thanks Wiz. I suppose I have reacted to the threads I have seen about running machine at lower throttle position/lower unloader pressure. Based on you comments I am no longer as concerned.

I hope you all know this info only applies to cold water machines! NEVER ADJUST THE THROTTLE ON A HOT WATER MACHINE!!!!!!

John, it is a cold water machine. Do understand the significance of amp charging as relates to hot water system.

Learned last week that I can somewhat control the steam out of the X Jet by cutting back flow/psi using the ball valve at my gun. Your response helps me feel like I am not going to seriously harm my engine or pump by fooling around with these variables. Thanks again.

Johns advice only aplies to the charging system of a hot water machine. He is forgetting about the air cooling that the machine needs to run. It is optimized for full throttle runs. If you throttle down the machine you will not get enough air through to cool the machine properly.
And yes, I have had motors burn up because of this.

How come garden tractors and Go-Karts don't burn up then if this is true Scott!

Steven, actually I do have the XJet nozzle attachment. Let me try that - was trying to elimate "one more thing" I carry around with me while cleaning.

May also try running a downstream nozzle just prior to my gun, and running through a normal wand with or without a soap tip.

Thanks to all!
