Hey AC, have you ever used enviroseal? They are out of ft.pierce. their claim to fame is their product hurricane proofs the shingles,but....I've heard bad stories of vapor locking a house because of coatings on the roof.what's your experience with sealers in the field?

Whats the sealer claim to do??

I cant imagine here in the northeast with the weather extremes a sealer doing anything

Then again anywhere in the USA

sounds like snake oil

I haven't looked into this stuff, but...

The only thing that makes sense to me would be drawn from my experience with asphalt sealer.
I'm going to ASSUME (dangerous, I know) that it replenishes the shingles oil content while sealing it from the suns rays and other possible contaminants.
This is compared to a parking lot sealer which protects from spills of all kinds, keeps the asphalt from drying, and protects from UV rays.
IF this is what it accomplishes, theoretically, it's not a bad idea....as long as it works. It could potentially extend the life of shingles quite some time.

Parking lot sealers typically need to be re-coated every few years

I wonder what GAF would think about it

The life of asphalt roof shingles are 25+ years at a minimum-without any sealer or additive

I cant see any sealer extending that

i would think most sealers fail way before that

Interesting

Unless it's reapplied.... However, I agree with it being snake oil. Again, I haven't researched it, just guessing. But from the manufacturers view (if that's what it does) people will buy it and contractors would push it to make a buck.
If that's what it does - if it were cost efficient to reapply every so often, it wouldn't be a bad deal. BUT, if it were cost efficient it would be more prevalent in the industry...
That leads me to believe, no matter what purpose it serves, that it doesn't serve it very well. Thats just my assumption.
