Rinsing off a roof........

I am into all kinds of cool toys.... Most I think of I can't buy so I just build them. Its the jet engine mechanic/ welder/ engineer in me! I was just thinking of a really cool water cannon that I could rinse off a roof with from the ground on a 2-3 story home. I can see a pistol grip on a huge spray nozzle powered by a 4gpm 4000 psi pressure washer. Something to launch a large volume of water upwards. I know i can reduce my pressure by using a large volume of water and shooting it upwards. (Bernoulli's Law)

Dose anyone use any kind of weird rinse system besides a garden hose with a jet/fan nozzle. I do know you can rinse a roof and it turns out ok, but a good hard rains comes it always turns out awsome! I want to try to use this theroy and make it work for me!

I'll build tomorrow and post pics.

Any ideas would be cool!

Something like that would be great! The problem im running into is that some houses have great pressure and others are terrible! It took us 45 minutes to spray a house the other day and over 5 hours to rinse it!! The water pressure was terrible. I was tempted to just get the pressure washer and just stay a good distance away...if you can come up with something please let me know.

Reef said at one time to use your wand with no nozzel in the end of it. i havent tried it, but i powered up my washer and didnt have anything plugged on the end of the hose, look pretty good. Mabye Chris knows something. Big hoses i think he said .

I usually rinse from on the roof i also would like to rinse quicker i went out and bought a high volume pump 20gpm im going to hook it to my 300 gallong tank and pull from that and see if that will work thing with the pump is i need electricity. there are a couple other threads on rinsing but thats more on rising down a house.l

This guy said he will rinse for you, IF the price is right, just bag the downspouts first?

If you are done laughing, here is how to rinse really fast.
The BEST thing is a dedicated water tank and high flow, low to medium pressure pump like a Hy Pro diaphragm pump of 20 GPM at 300 psi or so. http://www.hypropumps.com/en-us/Products/Pumps_Summary/Diaphragm/Low/D70_Main/D70_Features.htm

But lets get real, WHO is gonna lug this around ?
So, in the real world, we need FAT Hose, as short as practical.
We find 3/4 inch Mean Green to be great.
If a customers rinse water is not adequeate, tell him, and leave it up there, let GOD rinse it.
In a PERFECT world, it is always better to rinse.
But, IF rinsing, be sure to leave the mix up for 1/2 hour or so before you rinse.
The reason for this is to be SURE the mix killed everything.
More on this later ...

It is also not practical to fill up a water tank while on the job.
It takes water pressure and flow away from the plants!
So, unless you want to lug 250 gallions water or more around, and refill after you are done, grab the 3/4 Mean Green.

I use this for house washing, it will shoot about 30' with 5gpm. Got the idea from Michael Kreisle's "ball valve" video. I don't do roof's but would like to in the future, mabey this will help yall.

You could pinch the barb end in a vice to get a wider spray pattern, I tried it on another test.

The small one on the right is a zero degree tip drilled out to a 9/64th bit. It will shoot about 25' but not as much volume.

I saw Michaels video, and loved it.
Maybe the thing you thought up will work ?
Never know :)

bad monkey
We use our bandit to rinse our roofs

I use my Bandit to apply chems and then rinse the roof as it is flushing out the pump with water. 6gpm at 200psi and will shoot up over 40'-50' high.

I use either a 1540, 2540, 4040, or 0040 to apply chems and rinse. It works great.

This is a lot faster than rinsing with my pressure washer and large orifice nozzles, much, much faster than rinsing with the homeowner's garden hose pressure and flow.

Todays findings have proven a total failure...lol A pressure washer will not provide that much power in volume.... I'm looking into other pumps. I'll keep you all posted!

They are many ways to get a high volume pump cranking out water!

Here's my rinse set-up

200 gal tank 8 HP elec start Honda Udor 13 GPM pump and THE TOMMY GUN!

It'll shoot over a 2 story from the ground and I can twist the knob for stream or fan.

Love it....

How serious are you about faster rinsing? Our 10.6gpm hypro produces 9gpms at the end of 300' 0f 1/2" through an ordinary garden hose nozzle with "very" good pressure. I use mine for wetting down plants, rinsing siding, roofs, & concrete. If you have the room and some extra cash, you will not be disappointed.

I see Banjo Ball Valves, I See Banjo Ball Valves ....
What reels are those Tim, and swivels ?
You MUST rinse them out, huh ?

I just LOVE that first shot of rust out of an unrinsed steel hose reel, LOL

I just LOVE it whan the customer would say " But, that rust was NOT on my roof before you came"
My response ?
Mrs Customer, that Rust WAS on your roof before we came, it was just hidden by the black Mold"
"For an additional charge :) we will remove the Rust"
JUST KIDDING
