RICHMOND RESTAURANT SUSTAINS SIGNIFICANT FIRE DAMAGE
06/29/06 9:35 PDT
A Richmond restaurant sustained "a significant amount of damage" early this morning after a fire broke out and spread through the kitchen and dining areas, Richmond Fire Department Battalion Chief Erik Newman said.
The fire at the Saigon Seafood Harbor Restaurant, at 3150 Pierce St., near the El Cerrito-Richmond border, was reported to fire authorities around 3:40 a.m.
Smoke had spread throughout the one-story building and firefighters from Richmond and El Cerrito fire departments took around 45 minutes to contain the blaze, Newman said.
While a second alarm was struck, those additional fire units were not used to get the fire under control, he said.
The restaurant, which is around 75 by 100 feet in area, suffered damage throughout. An estimate of the value of that damage and the cause of the fire is not yet available, Newman said.
