Removing sign lettering from a building.

This picture is small, but if you can tell has anyone removed any of these signs?

Im not being asked to remove it, but I have been asked what to expect behind it. And if we can make it look better.

We did another project where we scraped 90% of silicone off of the wall where lettering was attached, but it was still visible if you knew what you were looking for.

I wonder if the brick itself would be a different shade after years of being covered.

Id love to hear any opinions on this. My gut reaction is to say no, leave them there. It is on the front of a nice office building.

It really depends on how they were attached. My guess would be it will be like the last one you dealt with and the silicone will leave behind some staining on the brick.

Most signs that are that style will have small pieces of angle that is bolted to the building then have a self tapping screw from the sign to the angle, there is a lot of people that use silicone so expect it to be there. as for staining the brick that will more than likely be the case. Good luck!

If they used silicone, there will be a definate color difference where the silicone was.

I have tried all kinds of acids, wire wheels, etc.... to remove the last bit of silicone but it soaks into the brick over time and the stain is going to stay there.

Only if they can cover up the whole old sign would be an idea after telling them about the stain, otherwise leave it there.
