Question for all You Paver Guys

I have a firm understanding of how to clean and seal pavers. But i have a customer that has travertine pavers and he has sealed them for the last 5 yrs with just using a light power washing and then applying vexcon ac1315. Now he rolled it on with a standard roller and has alot of bubbling and now the sealer is breaking down and has a milky look to it. My question is what is the best and safest sealer remover to use on the travertine without causing any damage to the paver and minimal damage to the landscape( grass). Looking for any and all suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Mike i seen that jon chapman has done some but i havent seen him on the board in some time. I will be calling vexcon tomorrow but i was looking for someone that has dealt with the issue before as i do not want to get involved in something that i cannot provide great results for.

Dads is the most efficient. It will take off multiple layers in one coat. Work in 10*10 sections at a tim and crank the heat up. Turbo nozzle for the stuck buggers. I like chemical stripping over sandblasting cause I feel it gets in the pours and cracks better than the glass or media blasting. your not gonna screw the stones up with it youll want to resand after all the mess of strippi g though. ..thats gonna be a high dollar job. .I charge in lowball hack cou try well over a dollar a square to repair sealed pavers. vacuum s.c. would help control the washing. Was he using the sealer every year? ?? Sounds too frequent. .he probably built up the mil layer too much. use a good quality sealer every 2-3 yrs using discretion of course. .its funny lots of homeowner s will seal everytime they clean it. .man it looks like crap after the second or third year. Ive been pushing a non film forming sealer lately for travertine...cobble impregnator. Jons a good guy and very helpful hes got me out of a pinch with stripping before over the phone.

Nicholas,
Thanks alot. Do you know where i can get that stuff dads? And yes he was sealing it every year and it is so thick its not even funny. I dont have a vacuum sc but would you suggest using over 200* water? Also what about seal and lock? I was thinking of using that becuase i have had good luck with it in the past 2 yrs.

I usually just turn my burner all the way up and drop my tip size in my s.c. by 1gpm. ..I gets hot but idk how hot..I dont think anywhere over 2 but who knows. I don have vac s.c. either just burm up and shop vac and brush up all the sealer. ..it will re animate and seal whatever it dries on so pay close attention to where it goes. ..dont wanna seal the gutter all the way down to the drain..lmao. some paint stores carry dads..some ace hardwares..I get it from my sealer guys. .. www.surfacelogix.net I know jon uses seal n lock on travertine. It is film forming but if you just one coat it you shouldnt have an issue. ..disclaimer ..I have not attented the seal n lock class so I cant spak proffessionaly on it ;-) sounds like good stuff I use cobble loc same kinda 2 part stuff lke snl but with a bit more of the catalyst. About 240.00 for 5 gallon kit that make s 10 gallons....I love cleaning and sealing the same day. Your seal n lock guy will confirm the use of it on travertine but imo it would work great for that application. Take lots of b and a pics I get tons of work from fixing abortions like those.

Im not a fan of poly sand. That would be hard to do the same day. . You have to wet it ...or mist it like 4 or 5 times in like 30 min intervals. Time consuming to get done in one day. If that stuff isn't cured right its a waste. I juwt use contactor stabilization sand from home depot. 4 bucks a bag and the sealer will lock it in juat as good as polymeric.
