PW Price Quotes, What's YOur Opinion? - Long

In my opinion it boils down to who is going to be doing you repair work, it was mentioned that dealers don't like working on equipment that is not theirs or they didn't sell. You can get quality PW's for about half what you would pay at local dealer.
In my case I don't have time and my dealer is pretty good about getting me taken care of knowing that I may have that machine scheduled for work that night, and in most cases if I drop it off in the morning I get it back that day. Every time I purchase a new machine I think about this and am always temted to buy elswhere, but for now the service I recieve keeps me local.
 
Larry, it is not that I know you to well. It is that I know you and that you know. Actually it was a plea for your input on who owns Elite.

I have a Elite,Tuff and a Delco 5300 which is setting in D the weeds,all three have been good units but I call my Tuff a jewel,its been problem free for three years.I go though 3 to ? transformers on the Elite,all three have cat pumps and the delco 5300 and the Elite has bracket burner systems and the Tuff has a Wayne burner system which has out done the bracket burners in problem free so for knock on wood.

If it was me,I'd go with the 12v systems and cat pumps,they are tuff little buggers when it comes to day in day out washing,they'll wash along side the higher priced rigs.Sometimes you'll hear you get what you pay for but when it comes to powerwashers I think this is not true,the more things you have on a powerwasher the more things can go wrong as in working on or replacing.

If you'll notice the parts on most all powerwashers are the same just buildit a little different is all,some have cheaper frames,cheaper bolts,cheaper fuel tanks then others but the parts are usually the same,like the Tuff and Elite they both have the same frame but the Elite has the better bolts and fuel tanks ( I do not like plastic fuel tanks on a rig,the fitting get loose in the plastic.).
The 12v systems have gotten better over the years and as for as buying local thats up to you but they are not hard to work on or fix.Will the local work on it after hours or on weekends or on their lunch hour,after you learn alittle on how to work on them your down time is nothing compared to waiting on a local to get done with his dinner or sleep or get back from a fishing trip on the weekend.
Like you said tools and parts is the key but wouldn't it be cheaper on ya at the end of the year if you decide not to stay in the business or saving a few 1000 maybe what makes the differents in staying in,the Elite and Tuff will last a year easy,than you can decide if your staying in if so run the Elite or Tuff afew more years.
 
As of 1:00PM on 1/26, this post has had 249 views and only 23 replies. That gives it a reply to view ratio of about 1:11. I guess I expected that the majority of people who own a pressure washer would have an opinion about this. At least that’s what I was hoping.

More important then the stats or my hopes or expectations, I’d like to thank everybody who replied, for doing so. Especially Bigboy for going into as much detail as he did about his experience with different machines and Jon for the “Short and Sweet” reply that has convinced me that I can and will get the equipment at a better price – even if it means buying out of town.

Fact is, your answers have put me back to square one. Don’t get me wrong though, because I’m not complaining. I’m really grateful. I’d rather start this process again, then to wind-up over spending. I’ll let you guys know what I eventually buy.

Paul your prices sound like they could be list prices. Thats what alot of dealers will give out as far as prices go unless you can convince them that you are really going to buy a Powerwasher.

For example they will say that the Landa PW list price is $9900 and if your interested we will get back to you or they just give you there price that they will sell it for.

I have a Landa PGHW5 30221 PW that is two years old. This is a hot water PW that puts out 4.8gal at 3000psi. I paid $5400 + Tax which puts the total price at about $6000. Either way the shipping would cost around the same that the tax would cost if you bought a machine out of state. My tax cost about $440 and I picked up the machine because my dealer is local. If I had the PW delivered from out of state it would have cost about $400. So its a push.

Heres the difference: Since my dealer is local and I bought this PW off them if I ever need it fixed they will give me a loaner untill they have it fixed. Which means no loss revunue for me.

Also I stop by there place to buy my chemicals and to shoot the breeze. As you could see I'm glad I bought My PW local.

Hey Paul I recieved a quote in the mail today from my local distibutor( Theodore Alabama) on a Landa PGHW5-35221E 4.7gpm at 3500 psi, 20hp vanguard. 120 volt burner 1800 watt gen,ect ect same unit I think, my price and bear in mind I ant even begun to haggel yet was 5883.75 no freight charge on this unit.Rick
 

I've narrowed my search for a new machine down to 3, listed below and I still feel like I need “all ya’ll’s” opinion because I still think the prices are to high, even after asking the distributors for their best price.

If you own any of these machines I would appreciate it if you would post some information about it. Stuff like, Performance, Problems, etc. If you bought yours within the last year, would you list the distributors name and phone number or email it to me? I would really appreciate it.

Rick (greenrw71) that’s the same machine but according to the distributor I talked to, it’s been beefed-up. It now comes ‘standard equipment’ with a 21hp Vanguard and a 2000w generator. He told me that what you’re looking at is an old version of the same machine. Might be worth looking into. Could you send me the name and number of distributor you mentioned?

Why would you buy one of those units when you can get 2 Delcos for that price! HydroTek has always been overpriced, I would not buy them for that reaon. MiTM is likewise too expensive. Anyhow, it's your choice.

hey Paul,

whatever happened to that machine in Rolla, MO???? I thought you were going to buy that one?? What kind of work are you going to do??? Fleets and pressure washing or wood care?? Reason is, if you are planning on doing wood care you would be over-buying to go with one of those more expensive machines. Fleet guys might run their machine 60 hrs a week but a wood guy might use it 20-25 hrs. Save the extra money and buy a Tuff for 2500-3K, and spend the money you save on advertising. These guys that are spending a lot on repairs have been working for years and their machines run non-stop. I think you ought to save some money on equipment and use it to get customers, then in four or five years if you still want to spring for a Landa go for it.

Hey Paul as of 1/30 the post I started on fultimers and part'timers has had 328 views and 16 replies,Wow ,but the percentage in the 16 that voted is running about what I had figured.
At the time I wasn't smart enough to add another vote to my post,I should have put another that read (3) I do not powerwash at ALL,lol...........but see your not to late about making up your mine as what,how as in rethinking my rethinking came to late as of now lol.

Another bbs just saved me from making a bad deal on buying a business,they saved me from really making a bad judgement on buying a local carwash that was buidit from a old gas station.....a competitor could but him out of business anytime they want if they knew what I knew...OLD gas station,epa,do I need to say more lol,the cleanup alone would have killed me in days to come.

I'm just glad we helped you as they helped me,isn't freedom wonder'full on these bbs as to the people willing to help or give their 2 cents worth good or bad.

I'm going to have to agree with the above posts about super skids........you can buy two machines from delco for that price.......I know, because I did.

I have twin 3000/5.5GPM hot water skids on a 16' tandem axle trailer, with a 325 galllon water tank.

Including shipping, and extra hoses, and other misc stuff, that cost under $13000 two years ago.

I have a dealer in the next town over service my units when they need it........they are very helpful. The advantage I have is, if one goes down, I have another. That has been helpful on more then one occasion.

Good luck in your descisions, but believe me, you will have plenty of other things to spend your money on..........you won't believe how much money you can spend on operating expenses.......they really add up.
 
I agree with the group.

1) prices quoted are retail - you need to get dirty and ask the "real price".

2) If you are not planing on working on them you should go with one of the local guys. BUT, if you are inclined to learn, working on them is not that hard - at least the basic things that go wrong (unloaders, transformers, maintenance, etc.).
 
Paul, I own the mitim paid 5475 for it. Its winter now bought it in late fall so i dont have enough time on it to give you a opinion on it but it sure does look nice lots of stainless! Purchased it from a local dealer. I am curious about the pump if anyone can help it would be great. The model on the pump is a T3555 4.7 3500psi. If you look around that model # does not exist in any general pump listing. After talking with general they told me the pump is made for mi-tm and it has a special low pressure seal in it for being attached to a remote water tank. One thing to remember this unit comes with 3 way ball valve on it for a remote tank 150.00 add on for some units. The point on the pump is i am a do it yourselfer and i am getting the feeling you have to go through mi-tm for rebuid parts , etc and i am sure this will be more expensive than being able to pick up anyones catolog and compare prices. I mean a ts2021 pump is 279.00 and everyones got parts etc and for that price you can throw a extra in the trailer. The dealer can fix it but why pay the labor,and if your 50 miles away and have to finish someting what good is he then. Buy the way mi-tm has a 10 year warranty on that pump. Well just a thought!

I have heard good things about delco equipment. lots of good machines out there and i thin the brand mark sells is good also.
