Pump Recommendation

Fence Renew

New member
Hi Shane -

What 12-volt pump would you recommend to push fence stain through a 200' hose? a 300' hose?

Also, where do you get the hose and connections you use when you make your staining rigs? Do you use 5/8" hose?

Thanks...Jim

I use 100'-150' sections of 1/4" ID Poly braided hoses we get local here in Houston. I'm running shur flo 60 psi 1.8 gpm pumps that work great for me.

My rig has 1/2" ID hose, running a 2 gpm pump at 50-70 psi and I use a Tee Jet 8004 tip on my spray wand. Currently plastic with stainless insert.

I recently found some all brass 8004 tips but haven't tried them yet. Do you have a preference on tips?
Have you found an advantage to using 1/4" ID to 1/2" ID hose?
Does 150' of hose allow you to leave your spray rig in the truck?
Do you use quick-connect hydraulic connections or something else?

Sorry for so many basic questions but I'm a geeky gear guy and really like to understand the how and why things work.

Thanks...Jim

We make our own set up and I wouldn't use another wand for staining ever! The lighter the hose the easier it is to lug around and no i'm a carry my pump with me kinda guy.If my hose starts leaking and i'm 200' away i'll stain all over their grass or worst some concrete!

I use teejet 6502 brass tips.

Awesome rig! I really like the attention to detail and small footprint. I'm assuming the battery sits in the bottom. Do you move a 5 gallon bucket around with you and transfer your pick-up tube to switch buckets? Do the Bakers 5 gallon buckets have a pour spout the pick-up goes in or do you have to take the top off each bucket? How does the hose connect to the wand? I don't see any clamps or disconnects in the picture above. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions.

Thanks Jim..

Yeah a 12 volt lawnmower battery fits perfect in the bottom it keeps it balanced since it's a little top heavy. Yes I carry a bucket with me no hole for the pick up tube...I use 1/4" QD like in the first pick on the outlet side connecting to the hose then to the male pug on my wand.

This set up has come a long way with trials and errors and you can make 4 of these setup for the price of a deckster. I use these also for cleaning and staining btw.

Shane, do you keep the hose coiled up and just uncoil it when ready to use or do you have it on a hose reel in the truck?

I don't think this has been asked or maybe I missed it as we don't see the hose in the pictures and we don't see a hand truck there to carry around the bucket of stain.

Or

Do you just carry the bucket around the yard in one hand and the sprayer in the other hand as you go?

Thanks.

No hose reel I just wrap the hose up and roll on....If the yard is small enough I can set up my pump in one spot and leave it there and spray the fence around the yard. I set up in less than 5 minutes and clean up also about 5 min.

Thanks for the info Shane. You sound very efficient.
