Property damage (flowerpot)

Some may not agree with me on this one but I would not be paying a single dime at this point. You only broke 1 pot not 2 pots, the homeowner and or the association never gave you an oportunity to settle the matter and you surely didn't kill the plant. It could have been re-potted into a new pot. They are trying to hose you and figure you have insurance and they will be paying.

Had a lady 2 weeks ago try to get me on a mohogany double french set of doors that she claimed were worth $20k....Not gonna happen. She even called my ins company and they called me... OOHHH NOOO! Slow down. Had a refinishing guy go out and check the doors... Was not my fault. Moisture had already gotten into the wood before I got there. Thank you for my check! Don't ever call me again! Bottom line is, I would fight this. No need for you to be paying for all that. Sorry so long but it just makes me mad when I see people trying to get stuff for free..... The pot was probably already broken and they were hoping you would move it. They probably already had the new pots ordered before you started cleaning! I'm Done....

Thats why when something breaks I get photos and try to find name brands and stuff ,, and take lots of pictures.. I learned my lesson when I broke the neon lighting.. They said 800.00 I got the whole thing fixed for 500.00... And yep paid it out of my pocket, No use bothering insurance about it.. Next time I will be far away from the neon..

I'm big on giving the customer the benefit of the doubt, but the doubt is too great in this case. I wouldn't roll over on this one. If you get equipment stolen the insurance company pays the depreciated value unless you have replacement value insured. If it's a big customer and you'll get it back many times over the years, right or wrong I'd write a check. If not I'd fight it. I've worked with a bunch of very high end clients and they pay crazy amounts for this stuff and the "designers' convince them it's worth it.

Does sound like a something for nothing person. You didn't mention how long it took you to get over there and address the problem. If it wasn't the same day it was too long. These things grow quickly when they appear to be ignored.

Good luck.

It took me about ten minutes to get to the lady and she had already called the PM.It seems like she was waiting for it to happen, but I'm not really a trusting soul anyway.

It is a set of three pots and one of them is big but the other two are as pictured.

I always have my camera with me and from now on will dam# sure use it and on big jobs like this it will ALWAYS be "Cajun Cleanin' is not responsible for moving personal items" on the contract.

The PM advised I could invoice for the cost which is a great relief (I got real lucky on this one) but it still piss#d me off. I guess i'm just hatin on the people that can buy $800.00 flowerpots.

The homeowner is totally out of line. To replace BOTH pots - without speaking with you - is crazy. The fact that the pots were replaced so quickly tells me that they are not custom and are an in-stock item. If they were advised to move things prior to cleaning, a repair of the old (were you able to inspect for a prior repair?) pot would have been appropriate. Paying for two new pots seems extremely unreasonable. Is the old pot discontinued? Could you locate one somewhere else? (If you can find an exact replacement, the homeowner would have to accept it.)

Having said that, what you have to deal with is whether you want to satisfy the PM - not the homeowner. Are you willing to risk losing them?

Would the property manager lay down and buy this lady 2 new pots undr the same circumstances if it had been him who moved the pot for her? Ask him that!!! I don't think he would... Someone (h/o or pm) is thinking that you carry a 5 gal bucket of vasoline on your truck! SORRY! No one gives me a chance to resolve the problem? Then No one gets a dime from me!

I've been here for a while but between my puter crash and my incredible ability to forget passwords/logins I have been gone for a while..

My wife has the same problem with passwords. I always use the same one for EVERYTHING so I don't have that problem. I finally convinsed my wife to do the same and she is having a much easier time with that now.

My wife loves to garden pots like that are terrible for getting water down in the stem and freezing in the winter the pots crack and you dont notice it untill you move it and the base comes off. I dont know your whole situation or history of the pots but I bet they were broken long before they were moved. Any ceramic or terracotta pot will do this if left outside in freezing temps. I am new to all of this but I wouldnt move them at all. knock on the door and ask the tennant or H/O to move them if they wont go around them and leave them where they are. wow I managed to cotribute something lol.

Jc whatever happened with the pot replacement? Did you end up paying or did you fight it? Just curious!
