Possible scaffold work...

I am in the process of bidding a new system at a factory nearby the office. They have a brand new system including a huge sidemount fan that is about 16-20 ft in the air. The only to get at it is going to be setup scaffolding. Hopefully I will get it, and get some great pictures. Just thought I would give a heads up for anybody that is interested. Here is a little teaser pic of the fan, checkout the frame and the "oil filter" in the pic.

you'll likely be bidding against a cheaper company willing to mark it inaccessible! But, it does look like the installers knew something about cleaning! Consider yourself lucky! Good luck!

Scaffolding is the cheapest option I have, as I have my own in house scaffolding. A lift will work but it is an added cost I don't need. The company that owns this is a 100+ million dollar company and their on site safety requirements supercede OSHA, as they are much stricter. Also I don't do ladder work at this height, its an accident waiting to happen. Not too mention that OSHA requires three points of contact when on a ladder, both feet and a hand, which is impossible to do when using both hands to hold the wand and gun.

Here's one for scaffolding the exhaust dog legs then goes horizontally through the wall into a 5 bay 10 lift transmission shop.

Hold on the pics are still in my camera......taken today.

I would anchor a top rope and utilize a petzle - gri gri....dont know if you are savy with this type of stuff though.

Yeah I am pretty familiar with the Petzl system, I used to do alot of rappelling and cliombing when I was in High School. It is definitely an option we have used before in combination with a Bosun's chair to provide a better working platform. However the scaffolding is still the easiest option for us to use since the company uses it almost every day. FYI I just got the PO to do the work yesterday, so I should be getting some good pictures pretty soon and get them put up here.

yeah, good for for you!

Got some good news and bad news today. Good news is appearently it has been a great business week for the overall company, a number of large jobs came online, bad news is I lost my bucks of scaffolding to other jobs (100+ bucks in 2 days). Luckily we had our scissor lift come in from another job that just finished up, so I grabbed it before any one else could. So it looks like I will be doing lift work instead, but don't worry I will still get some good shots on Friday.
