what is the best way to clean around these areas and NOT blow the junk all over the yards, driveway, or sidewalks?

Experience. Get a hp ball valve before your wand and dial down the pressure when working near surface edges. You do not need 4,00 psi to clean the edge of a sidewalk. Turn your ball valve to get just enough pressure to do the job. Also plan your attack. Consider best angles and answer the what-ifs before you start spraying. After a while it will become 2nd nature.

Pull the trigger before you get to the material,If your machine is a 4k is will have more pressure than that built up and the surge is what blows stuff all over imo.

I use the surface cleaner to cut the edge in on sidewalks.I you tilt it up just a little about 2 inches it will get out to the edge of things and blow less stuff around.

Sometimes you just gotta get the junk everywhere and rinse it off again.
Rinse with very low pressure so you don't do it all over again.

Use your soap tip for low pressure if your not downstreaming.

I never have to turn pressure down or switch lances or anything else , use the same pressure adjust the spray angle away from the area you do not want to disturb.

The ball valve can be bad on the pump and the unloader as well creating too much back pressure, it is ok at a low pressure but I prefer not to use it that way.

The pumps on a pressure washer are designed to work at a certain minimum gpm restricting the flow in my oponion is not good for the unit.

As far as the way we do it ? Well it takes some getting used too, Ash has seen the way I do it and can vouch for our methods and changing tips wands and lances takes time as well

Basically if you can stand in the bed you are ok, spray away from it if not hold the wand away from you and spray back toward your feet

Ditto, we run into alot of this at S/C as well. once you have been doing it awhile it becomes automatic.

We never mess with pressure, it's all in the wand action..;)

90% of the stuff around the beds is sidewalk and driveway here. I do have sone that are actual curblines..

thank you all for the tips i will test them all and see whatworks best for me here.

Using a dual lance makes it easier for me to keep the pine straw to stay in place. Also trying to keep that angle away from the bed instead on towards it.
