Past transportation just for fun

Thanks Tony. Before I bought the bike, my wife said she would never ride. I talked her into riding with me and she got addicted. It wasn't long before she had her own. She started at the track running 12s. After working with her on the street and at couple track days, she got down to a 10.80. I'll never forget her revving that thing to the moon and the light turning green. I thought she was gonna let out the clutch and go over backwards. Well, she let out the clutch and carried the front wheel about 6-8" off the ground. As scared as she was, she never let out of it.

I raced the eclipse at the track early on. Low 13s with terrible 60' times. It was goin through the traps 115-116mph. Easily mid 12s with traction. This was also on lower boost settings. That car saw a lot more time racing the streets outside Baltimore than the track. My guess is high 11s with the eclipse if all went well.

The old AWD Talons were sick. Exhaust, turbo upgrade with a tune, and you were making 400-500hp. 11s were no problem. I know John Shepherd has been in the high 7s with a fully built 1200+hp street legal AWD.

Chris is riding that ZX6. Thats pretty impressive.

I'm waiting for someone to claim they invented the automobile but can't find the patent.........
Hahahaha! I love it. Good one! Maybe we will find out that someone on here invented the wheel.

Or that someone is pushing automobile safety regulations to produce a square wheel made in Texas.

In 2005 we went back to bikes. When Chris was 18 we helped him get a Ninja 250 to get started. He was an ironworker apprentice at that time while working part time for us.

He started doing wheelies on it in a couple of months and crashed it a few times. I bought one at the same time to ride with him.

Riding motorcycles together was a bonding experience worth every dime.

The Ninja's didn't last long. They were too weak. You know it's bad when you go to the drag strip and your wife makes fun of you on camera. lol.

That video was just the beginning, he was just learning then. He practiced so much that a year later he was asked to join a stunt group that performed at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He finally quit that after crashing a few times and hitting so hard once it put a hole in his crankcase.

After that we went on to sprocket changes, lowering practically down to the ground and an extended swingarm. That ZX6 was carburated. We did all we could on it but I think the best time he ever got was 9.85 or so. The best I ever got was in the low tens with the ZX9. You couldn't use a tuner on those carbs. But I did learn how to sync carbs. It sure is sweet when you've got four carbs purring like kittens.

Some of our most memorable times together.

1) Went to bike night at a big restaurant. Chris met a lot of guys and girls. After a little while I asked him what about all this? He said, "I just like riding and hanging out with you Dad". He probably doesn't even remember saying that, but it meant a lot to me.

2) Met the Rough Riders on the way to Pahrump at the foot of a mountain road. We asked if we could ride with them. They said we could but if we couldn't keep up we had to pull off the side going up and wait there till they pass us when they come back down. (to embarrass us) Then they put us behind one rider and put another rider behind us. We made it to the top and back down. This was winding mountain roads. Our speedometers never dipped below 100 and numerous times we hit 150. Once we got back down the the bottom the rider in front of us, who we were struggling to keep up with, got of the bike and came over to congratulate us. We were surprised when SHE took off HER helmet. Man, that girl could ride! Chris was shaking so badly at the bottom he could hardly light a cigarette. We hung in there and God kept us safe.

3) Topping out on a straight stretch at 174 on the ZX9 and Chris at 156 on the 6 on a 20 mile straight stretch when there was no one else around.

4) Watching Chris perform stunts.

5) Standing outside the Drag strip on the top of the camper watching Chris do one final run.....against that pitiful looking Eagle Talon from the 1990's. ...... Then watching him get thoroughly spanked! I think that car did the mid 8's! Chris was in shock.

We had a lot of fun. These bikes brought us together and made us best friends at just the right time in our lives.

This was my first bike. Got it in 2006 (as a bachelor) and sold it in 2011 (as a married man) to pay off some credit cards. Ended up getting this a few months later though, which I LOVED! (maybe even more than the first bike.) After having it a few months though, had my pressure washer stolen out of the back of my truck, and had to sell the bike to get another one. Now with a baby, and another on the way, who knows when I'll get to ride again.

Really nice bikes!

My next phase was a VW phase. I liked the french car pretty well and decided to check out the German.

1988 Golf.jpg

Then a bought a truck to move. I used a V6 f150 stick shift to pull a 24 ft trailer with all the belongings from a two bedroom house AND the VW Golf from Rapid City to Tennessee to go to school. That trailer weighed 7400 lbs. I made it 30 miles out of Rapid city before the air filter was soaked with oil from working so hard and sucking oil up out of the engine and into the air filter. So I put a tube on it and ran it out to a pop bottle so I wouldn't have to change air filters every 30 miles:

Back to the German thing:

1985 Jetta

1985 jetta.jpeg

1985 Audi 5000s. I bought two of these, different colors. They did well in the cold weather. I was back in Rapid City working for a Medical software company and had a big territory to cover, Montana,Wyoming,Idaho,North Dakota and South Dakota. A LOT of driving.

Then moved up to the quattro turbo after an accident in the snow. I needed the four wheel drive. 1986 Audi Quattro

I loved those cars. Next was A 1990 Audi v8 quattro

Thus ended my German fetish for a few years. Those were still some of my favorite cars. Before I die I have promised Shelly I will get her an Audi A8 Convertible

I think Shelly would like great in an R8. Just saying.

Now, if you want to see the bike I owned, you will need to visualize it. Close your eyes, and what do you see? Nothing? Yep, I have never been allowed to own a bike. I have not even gotten on one in 25 years, curiously corresponding with when I got married.

Can you play football or hunt? lol.

Learned to drive a stick in this.... 1956 Ford pickup (this one is in better shape) Hated to work on the motor because every time the hood latch would catch me in the back of the head.

Learned to drive an automatic in this

My first car we bought from some gypsys for $300. And yes they really were, tarot cards and all. 1974 Olds Cutlass. Had it to 130 once and then realized that a deer at night at 130 was no good. It had more and really felt like you were floating. The trunk could sleep 6.

My first bike was this

Then I upgraded to a 1981 Honda CM400A that is "A" for automatic. Yep it had an automatic transmission.

Then I went to this 1981 CB900 Custom. This thing has a dual range transmission so you have a high and low and then 5 gears in each range.

Now I have a 1982 Dodge W150 short bed 4x4 similar to this one only a different color.
