Partnership?

Gentlemen,

I could use some advice! The Fire protection company I currently manage does not provide hood cleaning services. I would like to form a partnership with my boss and myself, and merge my hood cleaning services with his fire protection company. But I'm not sure how to go about it?

I have the equipment and the knowledge but I don't have the time to work the accounts and get to sleep. Plus some accounts are out of town and that is also a time issue. Any ideas?

Should I personally hire a part-timer? and deal with the headaches of an employee?, or would it be easier to form the partnership and deal with those issues?

I have worked for this gentleman for 8 years and have a great working relationship and full autonomy. I'm thinking his money, and my knowledge and equipment, might make us both some money.

Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated!

Sincerely,

Hayden.

the way i look at it is like this if its a partnership it aint all mine.
I like to play by my rules, no one can burn me but me
if he has the $$$ than u answer to him..remember the old saying
"CASH IS KING" see the $$$ can be used as leverage, your working relationship is fine now because he pays you....you work for him if im reading it right.......... someone has to be the lead dog if you know what i mean............if your gonna use my money its gonna be my way or you can talk to the loan officer...if you know what i mean.........whats sleep ??? you must mean those brief naps I get.......... take the headaches thats what excedrines are for seriously i'd be my own boss hardest thing ive every done but i woundnt trade it for the world
but you know yourself best

just remember it can be the sweetest of dreams and the worst of nightmares

hayden, do not listen to Richard as he has it all wrong. Double everything he says about being boss/partners. I worked in partnership with a friend. We about came to blows several times. I did not know he could be so stupid when obviously I was rignt. The odd thing was that when we were on our full-time job at the fire station we got along great. He was my captain and that was that. On the part time job, as we were partners, no one was in charge.

On cleaning hoods, ever wonder why there is such a turnover in cleaning companies. beacuse the job sucks, the hours suck, the labor pool available sucks. I don't know how David Saulque and Dave Olson manages to keep crews.

As far as "who needs sleep". When you figure how to get by on 2 hours sleep per nite, let me know, I am presently at about 4 hours.

but whit all my complaints, being self employeed sure beats working for someone else.

For myself, I work with any Fire company that works with me. I try to keep my quality high as I can. I will not pay crews for problem and call backs by the customer. If I were to align myself with one company, the door closes on the rest. Even if you are to go into a partnership, that is a far step to say that you would be handed the hood service.

Hello Hayden,

The short answer on the partnership is NO. You might want to consider having this fellow loan you the funds that you think you need.

My $.02 :)

Thanks

Thanks for the advice gentlemen!

Sounds like some interesting stories with partners out there.

I guess I just have to learn how to juggle the day job with any night work. Or hire someone part-time to do the night work.

Sincerely,

Hayden
