I like him. We had a conversation about cops last year. He said part of the problem was the college educated punks coming out on the force thinking they know everything. Said most of them wouldn't have lasted six months thirty years ago.

My disagreement with him was because he ran a jail that housed people who had not been convicted yet under those conditions. He told me there were separate sections and the tent city was for those serving sentences or on their way to prison.

That was good enough for me. I like him too.

Tony, I think your comment about Sheriff Joe & Mexicans was way off the mark: insensitive, exclusionary and flat-out incorrect.

Sheriff Joe also has Hondurans, Venezuelans, Bolivians, Colombians...

Here in SC, the Mexicans work in the restaurants that are owned by the Colombians.
The Mexicans work in landscape crews owned by Venezuelans.
The Mexicans work on painting crews owned by guys from Uruguay (don't know how to spell "Uruguaians")

Guys from South America, as a rule, have (more) education, culture, know the difference between Stalin & Lenin, and speak English. They exploit the Mexicans & Central Americans as much as anyone. Western civ vs. Third World.

I agree, they are also the business not profiled by law enforcement as crazy as that sounds. Most off the radar completely , my buddy has a sweeping company and it drives him nuts one competitor from South America running paying no taxes at all.

We had a restraint owner 270 employee years back no withholding state couldn't touch him because he was not a citizen. He had immunity and the Feds or state could not prosecute. Look it up filibertos.

Maybe I should denounce my citizenship

All I know is they do yard work real cheap. I've used the same landscapers for 8 years now and they never miss a service.

Even when one of them went back to Mexico to see his family and it took him four months to apparently walk back, he had one of his cousins take his place to make sure our trees were trimmed and our yard was properly blown each week with the Mexican broom.

The truth is, if they weren't so inexpensive and so darn reliable I would probably just do the yard myself.

I couldn't hire someone like DJ Carroll because I couldn't afford him and would be worried about homoerotic temptations if my neighbor, who is married but rides a fine line regarding his sexuality, happened to see DJ in my yard gyrating his finely tuned, protein shake fed body, to the beat of "Ice, Ice, Baby" blasting in his earphones while blowing my leaves, with meticulously manicured nails.

So I don't feel so bad about hiring these guys for yard work. If not for them I would have to do it myself.

The scary part is that a large portion of the population of Phoenix avoid census takers because of their legal status. I bet that if the Census was truly accurate that they are probably 10% low.

My biggest issue with PT'ers is that they think they can can get away with skipping all the legit steps in owning a business. Most out here don't register their trucks properly ($85 vs $300), proper truck insurance, proper business insurance, no workers insurance, and typically buy the smallest truck they can and put in way more water/weight then they should. They figure if they get caught they just shut everything down and continue with life with their main job.

Then again, I know guys that are full time and bill out for 3/4 of a million dollars a year and still don't properly register their trucks or have any that are not over weight by a 1000+ pounds.
 
I guess I'm a part timer as I come to the office for about 2 hours in the AM before going to the gym to work out my protein fed body. Then normally come back for a few hours in the afternoon to sign checks and call on clients, if I'm not working on sales coaching with Chuck, flying to get my pilot's license, or hashing out investment deals. :)







oh and don't forget sliding in the bi-weekly mani pedi!
