Parking Bumpers

Hello all...

I need to remove the stenciled "RESERVED" off of about 60 parking bumpers. I tried just using hot water; with no luck. I also cant get too close to the bumpers with the wand; it will start pitting and chipping off.

Any chemicals that may help with this?

Thank you.

Thanks I'll stop by ACE tomorrow and let you know how it comes out...

any tips on removing or just power wash off?

Make sure you sue eye protection when using "aircraft striper". That stuff burns like hell when you get it in your eyes. Oh and by the wasy i noticed somthing funny the other day. It says not for use on aircraft on the can. lol

If the bump stops are sitting on asphalt, do not let the stripper come in contact with the asphalt.

The bump stops are cast, and probably a very weak concrete mixture, thus the reason they won't take pressure. Media blasting is another option.

Jasco stripper.from.home depot should work, too. Just vacuum it up as soon as the water hits the ground. Last I bought wasn't real expensive.

Try submitting a proposal to replace them with rubber ones. Try TheParkingPlace.com
I'm at a show right now. They cost about $35 each

We did same thing today! Regular old paint stripper from home depot let it sit on until it bubbles and wash it off with hot water.

Thanks for letting me know about my setting. Just changed it...

Well I tried Dads paint stripper. Well its definatly the stringest stuff i've tried. Unfortunatly, it did not remove it completly. It left somewhat a "shadow" of the word ,only visible when standing next to it. The letters only have one heavy coat of a enamal paint. Waiting on approval to continue to the rest of the parking bumpers to fade letters or paint.

Thanks

Lenny, thanks for the heads up on the rubber parking bumpers. Even though I want to go back and clean the concrete ones over and over again.LOL Might make my bid stronger in the future.

Baking Soda

I had to try something else due to management not accepting the shadows.

BAKING SODA!!

Man that stuff worked way better than all the stuff I used before!!

Most of the guys I know use the parking lot striping paint on the bumpers/wheel stops and it is designed to be very durable/hard to remove.

When you look at the time it takes to try to remove, use stripper, water blast, soda blast, etc..... it is a lot faster and easier to just paint the whole wheel stop and be done with it.

With a new coat of paint they can re-stencil whatever they want and have a good surface for it to stick to. Looks great and professional and helps the property stick out.

Removing paint from paint doesn't always work out that good but if you are removing paint from concrete it is a little bit better but just painting over what is there saves both parties time, money and aggravation.

Sometimes they want some paint removed but they might not have thought about making the wheel stops look good by painting them.

I agree. But sometimes people want what they want. Painting would have been easier and less costly. But from the orig, the letters on the bumpers were sprayed with a inexpensive spray paint from home depot...Its was sprayed on bare untreated concrete. Baking soda did a much better job at removing the paint than paint stripper (go figure...)
