Anyone have some tips on removing the chalky oxidation on different color vinyl siding?? I've just been brushing to remove it. Is there a special chem that i can just spray on to rinse it away with the dirt???? Thanks for any help.......:confused::confused:

Unfortunately there is a process that is long, talking about a couple days and in my area people do not want to pay that much.

People have been burned, taken to court and got scammed trying to help out customers with oxidized surfaces.

Unless you have a good process and some experience you can make it worse than just leaving it alone and end up in court like a couple of others here on the boards.

Sometimes it is good to walk away from those jobs.

Using a wand and some pressure can/will leave uneven cleaning.

Using a brush and soap is a long and tedious process which you should charge restoration prices and we are not talking $0.20 per square foot pricing here either, a lot more.

No matter what you do to try to make it look good, unless you restore the surface and put a coating on it, it will look uneven and they will be unhappy and probably end up taking you to court and if you have insurance, that might not be covered in your policy.

Read the older posts here, it has been discussed many times before.

Thanks Christopher, I will definitely take that information to heart. That really stinks though, someone needs to get on that right away.....LOL

Christopher,

Appreciate all your posts! See them often and am learning a lot. Generally, my experience with siding is that I usually can rub my finger across it and get residue on my finger. How should I judge when the wash will look fine and when it will look awful?

When the paint is a couple years old or older you will have chalking but when you rub your finger on the surface and your finger is covered with the chalk, time to walk unless you have experience in restoration and they are willing to pay those prices (a lot more than house washing) or they are paying for a paint prep to repaint.

When it is chalky so much, you will be removing a lot of the chalk that they are used to seeing and then more than likely it will come out uneven and take a lot of work, hours or days of brushing to even it out to make it look somewhat presentable.

Now your 1-3 hour house wash just turned into a day or several days to make it look somewhat nice. Now you are back to earning minimum wage while trying to run a business. More reasons to walk in those situations unless the reasons stated above.

A guy on the boards was taken to court over this kind of thing, best to avoid it unless you are just stubborn or don't listen to advice just make sure you have some money in the bank to cover court costs and/or painting a house in case you lose again.
