Ouch!

Is anyone else unfortunate enough to recognize this?

It cracked and leaked a molten metal on to the fly wheel. It smoked the white smoke of electronic death, then gave a brief billow of black smoke...

I'm just curious, is this a problem that comes with age, or is this a symptom of something bigger?

You haven't replaced an ignition switch lately, have you? Not all switches wire up the same, and some will back feed 12 volts to the ignition coils.

Otherwise, it probably just got old. Before you install a new one, take a volt meter and be sure there's no power in the ground wire.

Thanks Russ! The ground wire has no power.
I've got a new problem though...
This is on an old 24 hp honda. I've got a bad cylinder or piston and there is a lot of blow back from all oil ports (oil fill and bolts to head caps). I was going to run it until my replacement arrives. But, at the moment, It runs great, with enough power for my needs, but...
It only runs under stress when the spark plug cap is not directly connected. If it is on properly, the cylinder doesn't fire (unless pump is in bypass) and engine will die(the other cylinder can run on idle, but its not powerful enough to run under stress). If the cap is off enough so there is an arc to the plug, it runs near flawlessly.
The first picture is the cap slightly off and running fine... The second picture is the cap on properly, and running poorly for 10 seconds, then die!?
Any ideas why?

The plugs aren't new, but gently used back ups.
Visually, I see no cracks. While the engine is running, it's easy to get shocked if you pull that plug and position it to run right.

Plugs replaced! Used new "Honda approved" for the specific engine. There is no change what so ever!
I have resorted to using electrical tape to hold the plug where it needs to be to work best... I'm really confused on this one!
I'm thinking about replacing the 24 hp honda with a diesel. Anyone know what is needed to spin an 8 gpm pump at 3000 psi?
Anyone using the new Honda GX660?

I'll look for an 18-20hp diesel. It'd be nice to go single fuel! I haven't needed 8gpm or 3000psi for some time, but i might be about to land a mickey-D's account very soon that will require all i've got! I might get an excuse to upgrade my reclaim finally!
