orange water?

I was working yesterday washing a fleet and i started to notice that the water was comming out a rusty-orange color. it lasted about 3 min total but it happened twice. what could this be?
 
Were you running through the burner? Did it happen after you left the trigger closed for a few minutes. I had this happen to me but I was DSing 12% and the filter screen on the chem line was being attacked by the bleach. It would send this blackish borwn solution down my line if I left the trigger closed for more that a few seconds. I finally figured it out when I rolled up. It was some coating on the outside of the filter screen. That coating got eaten off and now it works fine. You might be picking up something from inside the burner. What chems were you using?
 
I had been working for about 9 hrs on it so far and then i was rinsing off the trailer and saw the water on the white truck. and yess i was going though the burner. was thinking it was somethin outta the coil but ???
 
That would be my guess.... but just a guess. And a very uneducated one at that. Did it stop?
 
There are a vairety of reasons I have experienced when this happened. You could have been running an aggressive chemical through the coil that was actually attacking the coil. Usually, when this is happening it means that your galvanization is gone. Acids, DI or Demineralized water, and Bleach will do that.
If that happens, make very sure that you rinse very well, and that you are not getting any residue of the rust in the water. Otherwise, you may end up with little brown rust spots on all the cars, and have some polishing to do.
 
I have had something similar happen a few times, brown or orange water starts coming out of the gun. I thought it was rust from the coil.
 
By the way, if it is really bad it will start coming out black.
 
it stopped after a few min but was happening on and off ,the color was way lighter than what i saw. it is grey only when i start the pw but lasts a few seconds.I did do some flatwork before that and the water was wayyy hotter.didnt think of that. thanks to all for your imput.
