Public safety communications seem to rely more and more on SMS text alerts these days, which is interesting to see. I personally have gotten a few alerts about local emergencies or fugitives, and I wonder how effective these messages really are in helping keep communities informed. Do people generally find them useful, or do they sometimes get overlooked or seen as spam? From the agency side, are these alerts easy to manage and send out quickly? I’ve been curious whether schools and law enforcement find the balance between timely information and not overwhelming citizens with too many messages. Has anyone experienced these alerts making a real difference in their neighborhood or workplace?
