One of my competitor's ads

No water access is a completely different issue. So is your 500k sq foot residential example. We can all throw out extreme and rare examples....that's why they are generally called "exceptions" to the rule.

Once you explain to the customer that you buy the water from the same place that he/she does and that filling and hauling it adds xxx dollars to his price, they'll be happy to let you pull water from their faucet. If you need 10,000 gallons and can't hook to the customer's water.....get a hydrant permit.

I can bring 800 gallons on one of my rigs.....I really don't want to and I don't offer it. I have it as an option. Pulling that much weight is dangerous, hard on the truck and trailer and it costs in wear and tear as well as gas not to mention the time to fill it.

My point isn't about "the water", my point is about the hack speaking to the customers needs/wants. I think he's on to something there. The whole bringing your own water might be ridiculous, but it is a direct concern for the customer in my opinion.

I just took a look at your website (which is pretty darn nice, by the way) and the first word on your copy is "WE". Then you go on below to say how your rigs are equipped with this and that... That's all fine and dandy, but as a customer I don't see the benefit for me. Don't get me wrong, I like your website, but I would have totally different copy addressing the customer instead of bragging about my stuff.

See what I'm saying, bro?

Edit: Just saw that you are a veteran... Instead of calling you bro, I'm changing that to sir. Thanks for your service!

Just looked at it some more...

Under the "info" tab... nothing addresses the customer...it's all about you. Granted, it's good to have that stuff, but it's not balanced with what's in it for the customer. I have NEVER had anyone ask me about the clean water act, but I have had people ask if I will be hooking up to their water... just sayin.

This thread was about residential, the site you are using to make a point doesn't even do residential.

CPW is a commercial only EPA compliant spin off of the original company (Cyclone Pressure Washing) hence the CWA stuff.

I have about 6 hours in what you see on that site....it's really a place holder for the domain. What you see on that site will be a lot different.....and really has little to do with the point.

OK, I clicked on the "Residential Customers Click Here" button...

The ENTIRE page is about you.

We do this
We don't do this
We don't do this
etc...

My little piece of advice is this: people buy emotionally, not technically. They may justify their purchase technically, but they buy on what's in it for them. Your page doesn't even mention what's in it for them. It's your own, personal bragging piece.

I would be willing to bet $20 that the "hacks" ad gets more business than your stuff.

That's a nice bit of selective editing my friend.... "we don't (use high pressure)" is about as common a phrase as you'll find on pressure washing sites.

My choice of words or phrases on my website has nothing to do with the value or costs of hauling water.....I have no idea why you seem to take this personal.

I'd take your bet but I'm not quite sure we wouldn't end up on some other unrelated tangent about me or my site. Since I don't take disagreement personally, care about your website, pressure washing in Cal or hood cleaning, nor have the time...you would most certainly have the upper hand in a battle of wit's.

But thanks for the advice anyway.....I'll look into the "we don't" SEO aspect when I get some time.

I am sure that Anthony did not mean that to you to be personal, just pointing out things about your website.

I need to go through mine and make some changes due to some great advice from people here and other marketers out there.

Ant really has some great advice for people when he posts, it is about making your marketing better, not really about bashing you.

I can Ant's point also about the we stuff.I will go back thru mine and reread and adjust the wording.I can where we don't use high pressure could be changed to Cajun Cleanin will never use high pressure on your house and sutle changes really do make a difference.

CPW try not to take everything so personal, these boards are for learning and growing.I see where Ant went back and edited to show respect for your service which is very admirable in my eyes,if he wanted to dumbazz you I don't think he would have done that.

I didn't "take" it personal.....it was intended to be. I look at other peoples rig's, websites and such just like the rest of the members of these boards.....I don't criticize their operation or site because I don't know their reasons, finances or market.

Either way, I don't care if someone hauls $2 worth of water to a house in Savannah, it's their gas money and brakes...."Learning" was what I was offering.

It takes a while to get a grasp on people's personalities on here. I'm sure those opinions were meant to be constructive. Learning is what Ant is offering also.

That being said I've never had any potential residential customer balk because we use their water. Maybe 2% ask if we need to use their water. Maybe just different geographically.

When I look at properties I ask them how good their water pressure is as I am walking over to see it for myself. I will tell them to do the job at an affordable price I will use some of their water and remind them that water is only about $3.00 for every 1000 gallons but I will not use that much water to do the job (most of them).

If they ask if I can bring in water, I will tell them that will add a lot more money to the price of the job and I am trying to keep their price low but I can accomodate them and I tell them that it is about $50.00 per tank load and I will need between 2 or 3 to do the job and at that point they will tell me to use their water.

On a some jobs where there is very low pressure or flow, I will bring 1/2 tank to the job so I can start working right away but sometimes I will have to stop and take a break so the water can catch up, price those jobs accordingly.

None of you guys have water towers you can put change in to get water in the cities?

I think that is mostly a country thing. I think we have a couple about 30 minutes from my house for places that are not on city water.

Funny, but I don't click in others websites too often. It is obviously not a large part of my marketing campaign, and really the rig that works for a lot of people would not work for me. That is a large part of the reason my truck isn't lifted, and that I have an open trailer. I have only one truck that is taller then 6'6" because it has a specific task. I guess I am a live and let live sort of guy.

Actually we have 3 of them in Valpo alone :) They're called water ATM's. 400 Gallons for a $1 and it gets cheaper the more you get. The chlorine smell that comes out of that water is strong too! Prob could shoot it straight on a house and get results

These came about due to contractors tapping into hydrants causing the settiment to stir up in the system. People would then call in complaining about the water and they would spend days flushing hydrants. Another issue was with guys closing the hydrants causing a spike in the pressure (water hammer) and blowing holes in lines the size of your fist.
