Nozzle trouble

The other day while on a job using a white tip nozzle. I suddenly couldn't get the pressure to go back up. It just stayed at nozzle pressure. At first I thought it was clogged. So I changed tips. And still nothing. I took the tips off thinking maybe the gun was clogged. But it wasn't. Finally I put on an old tip from when I bought the pressure washer and I could get it to work but it was touchy. Also my surface cleaner was working too. So I don't know what the problem is.

I know that what kind of tip you get can matter but how can you tell?

Or if you know of what else it can be let me know. I was wondering if it could be the pump. The pump is a belt driven Cat powered by a 11hp Honda.

Does your machine have a k7 unloader?

K7 Unloader?

I do not have a clue as to what that is. I know it works off of Backpressure.

Here is a picture of the Pressure Washer where you can see the pump. I don't know if this will help any.

I do think it might be my unloader...

While working on a job today I noticed it. I went to turn on the water and when I got back I could see the thing leaking. I fired it up anyways and after a bit it worked perfectly fine. I did buy a new tip so that might have fixed it. I bought the smallest opening and the biggest opening I could get. I think one said 4.5 or something similar to that and the other was a 7.5. I didn't check which was which. Nor am I exactly sure as to what those mean. But from what I could tell the one with the bigger number had a bigger opening.

I do need to replace the unloader. Also thanks for clearing that up with me. I think my unloader has seen better days.

Is there any specific unloader that people recommend. I buy most of my stuff from Northern Tool. I remember seeing those there but I do not know anything about them. I have a 11hp Honda with a belt driven Cat Pump. If that helps any.

One of these days when I buy another Pressure Washing unit (That way I have a back up for me. I have 2 already.) I'm going to tear that pump and stuff apart to see how it works. But that is the Future.

The K7 is a great unloader, but is a little finnicky about operating conditions. Flow and pressure must be within certain parameters or the valve freaks out. Is that your unloader? Is the leak at the end opposite the adjusting bolt? That is where I have seen K7's develop leaks. There is a little rubber seal around the stem that sticks out that is easily replaceable. If you get that seal, polish the stem with extra fine sandpaper, and stretch the spring on the stem about 1/8", the valve should last you quite a while longer.
