How I like to leave the links

RJTravel said:
'Racer',
When the links are that bad we won't touch the links &/or cables. We will scrape the housings, and light chem & spray only on the links. The only way it will look as clean as that is if the system is being disarmed & serviced the same night. Do you always scrape & clean the links that well?
Richard

ps I still wouldn't eat dinner off even your finished work!
Would you eat your dinner on that??? That is CLEAN!!!!!

Item # 21 on my system service report "Piping/conduit securely bracketed Yes No N/A" I would check :NO". Even though the conduit in the last photo has a stand-off clamp, the bracket can rotate when hit with the pressure washer and cause problems. You can see the position of the link holder is not the same in both photos. the link holders appear to be loose. If the bracket is shielding hte link, acuation may be delayed, at least according to one instructor at a class I attended. If you have doubts about the service of the fire suppression system, check the link where it fits over the tabs of the scissor link holder. The tabs should fit completly inside of the holes in the fusible link. If the tabs are not completly in the holes, the fusible link is not secure, and could come off. In time you will learn who does and who does not do good work, and pay more attention to the fire suppression system.

In some of the photos posted, I see the nozzle caps are missing. Nozzles caps on Ansul, Amerex, Kidde WHDR and Pyro Chem nozzles can be blown off when the exhaust system is cleaned. Loss of nozzle caps lead to grease build-up inside of the nozzles. If you blow the caps off, replace them. the job of the exhaust cleaner is not to clean nozzles or links, that is the responsibility of those servicing the fire suppression system.

Mtn Goat, I read your response and looked at the photo again. We both missed something. The link holder is not bent. That looks like a terminal detector, either a 471368 scissors or a 56838 clip-on detector. The nut that holds the detector in place has backed off and the detector is just hanging by the cable. I wonder if the Automan is even cocked and armed? I would immediatly contact whoever is doing the suppression system work and have them look at it. This assumes any one does the service work. I would think about contacting the AHJ, and discussing this with them. If you do contact the AHJ, documnet the person, postition, date, time and the areas of discussions. most AHJ's talk , but do not do any follow-up. Or maybe, the system has already acuated, and there is no fire protection at all?

Anyway, I would think about not doing this job again unless you document this problem and note you are not responsible for any fire suppression system malfunctions.

If anything looks out of the norm. I don't have to many problems with the auto fire systems. Like I posted earlier I have set off 2 systems in 17 years. I learned what you can and can not do. I feel pretty comfortable cleaning most of my links. And if I set one off it will just be one more thing I have learned. You can always learn something new. That is what makes me so damn good at what I do.:D :D :D

Josh you either have way too much time on your hands or you missed your calling as comedian.

Very funny stuff - funnier than anything I have seen on this board in a long time.

What kind of camera are you using for your photos ? The minute I saw those asian restaurant ducts I got that garlicky smell in my nose, NASTY.

Looks like your oriental was cleaned less than a year before. I have never seen a duct that clean (before photo), you obviously have them on a mall maintenance schedule which is great for you. How many guys do you take when you clean orientals? Are you working solo?

I have 2 differant digital cameras

I use a kodak easy share and the other one is a fuji, The frequency is 90 days but it is hard to get them to schedule in less then 4 months or so, So it is always a catch up service. I took this account over from a guy that couln't cut it... As you can tell from the before picture's. I did this job with myself and one helper. it took about 2 hrs. On some of my bigger jobs I will bring up to a 6 man crew. The job has to be real BIG for that kind of a crew. I can do them solo no problem but it is worth the $$$ to have a helper... Do you have any Picture's? I would love to see some of your work... Here is 1 more not my best work, But this job is a pretty low price...

Your post that is NOT the same hood...

I am not very good at camera. Tried using a polaroid but haven't gotten into the pixel/ mega-pixel thing. The kodak ones are looking fairly handy to use. What bugs me, is the thought of getting grease all over a 500 dollar camera and now that I've seen them below $100, I think I'll go looking for one.

GOOD GOD!!!!!

I would live in a chinese hood for a pay day like that. If you pay all your guys that well I'm there!!! Where and when does he drive home? I just want to follow him and pick up the loose change that blows off the truck!!!

ps. Speaking of blows, Does he have to do anything extra to get paid like that??? He's not working on Hollywood & vine is he??? LOL

:D  :D  :D

If you get a camera bag and wipe your hands off before you use it you can keep it in pretty good shape. 2 pixels is good to start.

I use a Samsung 2.0 mega pixel, Digimax 201. I paid about $100 at Wal-Mart. It takes really good pictures, probably the best I've seen for a 2.0 mega pixel camera.

I use the 1280 x 960 image size and the fine quality setting.I then use a software program to edit all of my pictures before I use them. I have to do this one picture at a time though, and it takes a while. I wish I could logo my pics and adjust the size as I download them, this would save a lot of time.
