Northern Tool Coupon Codes - And they work!

I hate Northern Tool, North Star crap! I will leave it at that. Im not against you guys making money with their garbage equipment, but you will realize its crap eventually. Sorry, I like everyone in this post but that equipment is bubble gum.

Ty, for the most part, I agree. But they have really improved on their 12 volt pumps. Not my favorite or anything, but when I was in the middle of cleaning a roof, and my PWS Flojet gave up, (Yes, I should have had a back up.) I needed a pump right away, and didn't have time to wait for one to ship. The Northstar pump has been getting me by for a few months now, and when I have problems, they switch it out for a new one. Love that two year warranty.

I guess my post sounded pretty bitter looking back at it! Haha

I just dislike Northern Tool. When I first started I bought a Pressure Pro, and a North Star surface cleaner for like $250. Because it was the only surface cleaner I could afford at the time. The thing felt cheap and plasticky. About 3 months later I bought a Big Guy and the difference was night and day. Literally I threw my North Star away because it broke down and is built terrible.

It is the only surface cleaner I have never even tried to repair cuz it's not worth the time and I wouldn't put a penny into it.

I think it is best to save up and buy the good stuff. Buying the cheap stuff is a waste of money long term. Either buy good stuff used or don't buy at all. Save up and don't buy twice.

But what works for you doesn't work for everyone else. We do what we have to do to make it happen. And calling another guys equipment garbage/crap and bubblegum is a slap in the face. There is a better way to go about it than that.

I am sorry u are offended so easily but I am just being honest with you. If you took it as a slap in the face then I guess it comes down to the old saying Truth Hurts.

There is a steep learning curve to this industry, a huge threshold. Because of the consistent innovation and discovery, word of mouth seems to be the best way to learn. The truth for many can be a matter of perspective. As far as slapping, offending, and hurting: the same rule applies. Ty, I'll quote a post you made on 6-8-13 that really helped me out a couple months ago when I was new to this forum:

The crazy part is I read this thread and liked it so I got excited and I tried to answer all your questions 1-4. But all of these questions are based off of your fears. I am not trying to be negative on your post. It is obvious you are trying to learn and that is great! This is a great thread! And these are regular questions that most people think about. I remember thinking questions like this before I started becoming my own boss. But all of these questions are based off reasons that you are intimidated on starting your business and hoping veterans can persuade you otherwise or give you advice so you never have to deal with these situations. But no matter what we tell you about the road we went through to get where we are at, you will still face obstacles in the road you take to be where you want to be in this business. So I can not even answer these questions the way you would like them answered. My answers are going to be too vague. I don't feel any of the 1-3 questions above apply to me. I will answer them anyway, but #4 is the only question I feel I can answer that might help you.

Answers:

1. I don't believe I faced any challenges. I face things that need to be taken care of to get where I want to be in life with my business on a regular basis. I don't believe they are challenges. And I feel anyone can accomplish these daily tasks to go where you want to go. You just have to decide that you want to be there and are willing to go through what you need to go through to arrive there.

2. I can't think of any mistakes I have made as a business owner. I have learned lessons on my road to success but those are just helping me get to where I want to be. They were placed there for a reason to teach me not to do them again. The crazy part is I can't think of any mistakes I have made because I can justify the reasons I decided to take those actions at that time. The only thing I can say is that you should do what you feel is right and eventually you will learn whether it was right or wrong when you have completed it.

3. I don't feel I would have done anything differently because everything that I have done has lead me to the point I am at today. So there was nothing that I have done wrong because everything I have done right or wrong has lead me here. And I am happy where I am today, so I have done everything right.

4. My advice to you is to decide whether you want to dedicate yourself to this profession for a long period of time. If the answer is yes, then learn everything you can about this profession. And PWI is a great place to start! Absorb as much knowledge as you can about the industry, test many different methods of cleaning, pricing, organizing, and managing your business as possible. Find out what works best for you and pursue that with 100% dedication on a daily basis. If you put your heart and soul into this business you will reap the benefits from hard work and dedication. Since you are putting your mind into this business and envisioning where you want to be in life you will end up there. You have to wake up everyday dedicated and want to be the best at what you do. If you do that and work hard at it you will be very successful in this business and any other business you wish to pursue in your life. There is a law called the Law of Attraction. So Like Attracts Like. That means if you think about being successful and follow the path of being successful by imagining you will be and surrounding yourself with things in life that bring success. YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL!

All of this is just my opinion, and hope you got something out of it because I did not write it for NO reason. But I can tell you this, I am everything I think I am and have thought I am. And if you believe you will be a successful power washer and try to be, you will be.

Good Luck in this business!

Equipment selection is one of the most sensitive issues because it involves the most risky investment. When we all begin, it's a gamble. In hindsight, we've all experience "learning decisions" that we remember to avoid in the future. I believe a large part of your disgust and "bitterness" with Northern Tool and their NS products comes from an investment you feel could have been more productive if made elsewhere - but like you said,

Steven, hearing someone express their opinion about something you spent hard earned money for isn't comfortable or easy to receive, but it's one of those things I like about this forum - and this country for that matter: Freedom of speech and opinion. As long as our NorthStar equipment pays for itself, as far as I'm concerned it didn't cost me a dime!

After refusing King Saul's armor - what worked best for King Saul, knowing his skill, ability and most importantly his relationship with God, David killed Goliath with a rag and a rock. As a matter of fact, the reason he chose 5 smooth stones wasn't in case he missed - the other 4 stones were for Goliath's relatives in case they felt froggish.

We do the best we can with what is available at the time. No one can change what happens in the past, we can only learn from it. Knowledge isn't power, USING knowledge is power. It's what we understand from our knowledge and experiences that turns into wisdom.

CL comes through again. Nice post. That pretty much breaks it all down. I wasn't intentionally trying to hurt feelings just made an opinion with attitude! haha

Anyway, I understand everyone has to start somewhere. I have been there. But as soon as you can afford to upgrade out of North Star, do it! You will be happy you did. (Not you in particular, just in general, anyone with North Star equipment.)

Speaking of Mr. 7 trailers and a flatbed... Are those 12ft trailers w 325 gallon tanks? What's your 20" sc of choice?

By next spring I hope to get a larger trailer and a roof system. Then a 8gpm (not sure whether hot or cold)

If you are getting a 20 inch I would just say get a 24 inch and get a steel eagle. Russ can get a steel eagle 24 inch for under $600 I think. Unless you want a floater, then go with the Classic. Those are 10x6.5 trailers dual axles with brakes.

I agree...go with what fits your budget, and produces cash flow, but dont cut corners...as soon as you can upgrade, do so. As I have learned. Corner cutting has a price, and you have the option to pay (sometimes 2 twice, once for what you can afford at the time, once for that new equipment that will leave you thinking, "Dang, I should have just paid that extra hundred or so bucks to begin with"). The bottomline is all about working smarter not harder, and in this business effiency is the key. As far as offending, dont be offended. I have learned that Power washer contractors are a passionate bunch. We all think our work is the BEST, Equipment is the BEST, and our methods are the BEST. This falls right in line with positioning yourself in and or amongst positive or like minded people. All the guys on this forum want to see you succeed, I saw a post where a newbie was skiddish about a house wash job he had landed, no worries, a vet took time out of his schedule (busy or not, its still time) to produce a youtube video. He even told the newbie to give him a call on his personal cell if he had any issues. Speaking for myself, this spoke volumes, I knew I was in the right place. Professionals succeeding in their business, and reaching back. Just my Dime minus .08...

I just don't understand why a guy has to put down another guys equipment, that's all. If you don't like it use a little tact when explaining why. It sure beats coming across as some ignorant, arrogant, egotistical person.

No time for PWI beef today. Haha

Northern Tool is great equipment it's what I would recommend all the professionals to use!

If you buy a Northstar and a cold water unit you can under bid real power washers that dedicate their life into purchasing expensive and top of the line state of the art gear!

Dude, this is PWI that means pressure washing institute. That means this is like college for pressure washing. I am here to learn from others and educate others in areas I already know. And in experiences I have had. All the power washers in this thread are great guys, probably including you, so I am not going to sit back and not express anything in an area I am familiar with. I have been there and done Northstar and I am telling you from experience that for a little more money u can get quality equipment that would be more beneficial to your company and you won't need to buy twice. Use Northstar crap as a stepping stone if u want but don't talk about it like its what professionals use. U guys are giving out coupons, here I will give you 25% off your next order with Russ. Return your northstar surface cleaner for $200 and save up and buy a Big Guy from Russ for $800. 25% off!

Back to work for me. I won't post when I get home from the bar anymore if I hurt ur sensitive feelings.

You ain't hurting my feelings I don't even own anything north star, I have Alkota. Again my point is if you think something is wrong use a little tact that's all. I might think that Chevrolets are no good but you don't see me posting. " get rid of those pieces of junk. get yourself a something better then those. only real men drive fords, only a fool would waste their money on chevys"

I buy Chevy for work trucks because parts are cheaper when you have a fleet. And I get them the cheapest, but they don't tow northstars! But I am not offended by your opinion and it didn't feel anything near a slap in the face to me.
