Siler City, NC(from which Mayberry was derived) is an hour west of me. I don't give my order to the waitress at the diner where I eat breakfast every morning, I don't tell my barber how to cut my hair- they know what I want already. I have a half dozen stops each week where I stop by and sit on the porch to chat with some old gentlemen and listen to their stories. One guy is in his late 90's. I bring him a snack pack from KFC and a pepsi in a glass bottle every Monday when I am in town. He tells great stories and I enjoy keeping him company. I will take the small town life over the city any day. I lived in Tucson back in the early 70's. Dad was stationed out of Davis Monthan for a little while while on loan from the Army training Air Force MP's in Guam. My sister was born at Davis.
I am fortunate enough to not pay a mortage. The sign on the front door says they are making loans though. Awesome bank. Stop by and tell then I sent you.
Ours is a small town bank right in the middle of the city. It is a South Dakota based bank.
I've never waited in a line for anything. I just knock on the door and walk into the president's office. And I haven't been charged any OD fees or anything like that in years. One time Shelly forgot to deposit a twenty something thousand dollar check and we were overdrafted by over $10k. They just called as a courtesty and told us to try to get down there within the next day or two to get the deposit in.
Sweet!
