New To The Business

Hello everyone, I am looking into getting into the power washing business in the city of Tucson, the comapny I worked for closed and lost my job, I was there for ten years, and havent been hable to find a decent job in over two months, I hardly have any capital for start up, but I do have a pick up truck, and my brother has a power washing rig with a landa 3500, hot water, chem tank, water tank, hose reels, hoses and all the works to start power washing, he has it in California, and paid over 15 k for the unit and was working it part times on weekends but got a really good promotion at his job so he parked it in his garage, he has offered me to go pick up the machine and pay him down the road when I can afford to start making payments the unit has about 50 hrs on it so its pretty new. I have some experience power washing I use to work part time on weekends when I was still in school, and have been reading threads on this forum and other places go get as much knowledge as possible.
My question is how realistic is it for me to start working with a very low budget (about $2,000.00) how would I start, and what should I expect from this venture, what kind of work should I go after first so I can start producing, do any of the phoenix guys sub out any work in Tucson to help get me started?, any advice would be welcome and is greatly apreciated.

Hello Tito - Good choice in the name by the way, There have been a couple of guys who tried to be slick and named theirs "Inferior Cleaning" but they didn't last too long.;)

If you have a family to feed I wouldn't suggest going in full blast. If unemployment or savings or something else pays your bills maybe you could go all in.

You should PM Tom in Tucson. He's already in your market and you would be competing with him for market share. He's a great guy and would be honest with you about the market there. Good luck.

Welcome to the MADness

Welcome Tito
I also was laid off back in Nov and didnt get another job until Feb. I was already pressure washing part time so it help keep me afloat. Now I have another job and still washing part time..... (I work 7 days on and off for 7 days so i have a pretty good set up with state retirement and insurance now)
Sounds like your Bro is setting you up pretty good! take it kinda slow at first.....flat work, house washes and try to pick up some small commercial accounts. You will do just fine.
Your brother will show you the basics and you will learn from there like we all have......I have learned more the last 3 months just from being involved with these guys here on this forum..... Everyone here will help and answer any questions you may have.
Make sure you get insurance to cover yourself!
Good luck and enjoy.
There is alot to learn, I learn something new daily.

thanks Tony and Richard for your advise, I will be heading out to california to pick up the rig today and will start knocking on doors to pick up business, and will also continue to send out my resume and see if a job comes around for a regular income and dedicate the rest of my free time to put into the business.

really apreciate your help and motivation
