It's always that exact same style of hinge kit too! Don't get me wrong, I like that type of hinge kit, but I think there must be a prerequisite to buy them...like a stupid sign! I couldn't imagine being a contractor, finishing that job, and walking out without testing it...it makes you wonder if they knew what they installed and why...
I've found that the owner has no reservations about dragging that contractor back up on the roof to fix it! By the time I show them that, they have had 3-6 months to find all the other crap that was done wrong!

Alexy, do you mind if I use that photo? That is the best shot I've seen of that issue. All of ours are at night and in poor light!
We had an owner that appeared to have installed the hinge himself (or family) and he didn't want to pay (or spend the time) to fix it. He said it had been that way for years and none of his other cleaners had complained! The crew was about to walk away from the account, but my foreman got smart! He was able to tilt the fan just enough to drop a hose down the duct. They were going to attach the duct spinner from the bottom of the duct, but the hose end was packed w/ the grease it was pushed through in the duct. They down streamed the duct with the open hose end (mainly to clean it out) and the owner was blown away by the amount of crap that came down the duct. When they installed the spinner, all hell broke loose! All in all, they put a little over 90 gallons of water through, filled 3 55 gal cans with the grease water mix, found a dozen rags, 3 plastic bread bags, 1 roll of paper towels (still on the roll!) and the remains off more than one bird (or a bird with 2 beaks and 3 wings). He agreed to pay to fix the hinge and they did it immediately. Then, they started to scrape the duct and brought down a little over a 5gal bucket full all while the owner was watching it fall down the duct into the kitchen!
He has had some lowballers come knocking since and has promptly sent them on their way!
It took the guys 4 1/2 hours w/ 3 guys that first time, but now they are typically out in under 2 hours with 2 guys! The owner pulls our hoses through the door for us and sets up a ladder to the scaffolding he build for us (not as solid as we might like, but at least he tried!).

I'll see if I can get the pictures quickly. We should have some of missing ansul tanks in multiple locations of a major university...with recent tags on the equipment. I should have a few of links that were "just replaced" according to the bill, but encased in 3 years worth of grease!
