One unit we have is a 4000psi 4.0gpm. It has an 18hp Kohler. What would it take to transform this into a two man operational unit ? My thinking tells me to of course change the pump to a higher rated gpm. But what else will I need to change ? Will the 18hp Kohler be enough power to run a higher rated pump ?

Any help will be appreciated.
 
With the 18 hp, at 8 gpm you'll be able to run 2,000 - 2,200 PSI. At 6 gpm, it will be capable of 2,800 - 3,000 PSI. You will need a regulating unloader if you don't already have one on it, and a good sized supply tank. Depending on what pulley size you now have, you may need to change it, too, if the new pump's operating speed is different from your present pump. BTW, I've got an 8 gpm Comet pump that was ordered in error, so I'll let it go at cost to move it.
