Hello all, picked up a new deep cycle battery this morning and was able to photograph a lawn maintenance guy cleaning entry sidewalk's, curb's ect with no recovery, all water flowing into parking lot ending up in a storm drain. My question is, should I report it. This is the chain store with yellow lettering with a blue background. Your thought's please. Regards Jeff :scratchhead:

Reporting it is an option that reflects poorly on them and possibly you also.
The high road would be to introduce yourself to the lawn maintenance guy and try to educate him on the correct way to perform the work and teach him that he can make more money by doing correctly. A win win for you

Spoken as a debutant

Actually I did aproach the store manager informed him of the LAW & potential fine that could be initiated.I am MAD because of the Thousands I have spent becoming compliant [recovery reclaim] and approachling a dentally challenged lawn man would be a waste of breath. I have given proposals to this chain before, pushing the recovery CWA compliance reg's, yea they still are going the non compliant lowball route.Thank you for your input, you being from cali have to abide by Fed & state reg's and florida need's to play catch up.How would it look bad on me ? I am just doing my duty & trying to educate the mis or uniformed. Regards Jeff :scratchhead:

wgasa... I can certainly appreciate your frustration. However, hood cleaners across this country have been throwing a fit for years about the hack-jobs out there that do not clean to NFPA bare nekked metal standards. We only seem to have success when we educate and inform the business owner in a positive way of the added benefits that you could provide with your service.

In your presentation throw in some cheap shots at the hack, but never put them down directly. Not classy. As far as reporting the hack goes, it may get "Joe's Pressure Washing" shut down, but to only have "Joe's Curb Appeal And Stuff" pop up a month later.

On a different note: did you actually see the water running into the storm drain? There is nothing wrong with having water run into the parking lot just to be evaporated in a few minutes, or pumped into some bushes.

Nobody likes a narc.
Tell him what he is doing and how he can do it better not what he is doing wrong.

When I sat with local official's to obtain [they looked @ my bmps & I their's] storm water sanitary system permit they were very specific on 0 wash generated liquid of any kind, wash water specifically ,could be discharged into on or off grade grate. drain style. etc without debris free filtering to [local micron rating] being floct for oil sep, or run through a oil water seperator prior to discharge no retention pond exemptions dry well exemptions ect NO EXCEPTION'S.BMP's are very specific & I was asked to report any violations and to take pictures.I have not acted on today's incident. NARC is a strong word I would prefer environmental advocate. In today's slowing economy these company's that are not following letter of law are removing food from all our mouth's.If a police officer told you you were going 45 MPH in a 25 MPH speed zone and didn't ticket you just told you to slow down, that will have little impact on your regard for speeding on the other hand if he handed you a 175.00 speeding ticket you would slow down next time.Same scenario applies to lax compliance with CWA'S BMP's ect if fined once you will comply in the future. Regards

What if the police pulled you over and you explained that you were being chased by a man that just tried to rob you.. do you think you would still get the ticket? I don't, not if you could prove it at least. My point is, there has to be some judgment calls. The gov't is very good at making these blanket laws that are suppose to apply to everyone, but in reality, they can't! When I'm working in a place that my waste water could possibly harm something like go directly into a lake or something, I can see strict reclaiming rules. However, if I'm at a restaurant out in the middle of .. I dunno, the Mojave Desert, I have no problem dumping my waste water on the ground. I have no problem going out by a bush and taking a leak either. Is that against the law, yep, sure is, but there has to be some judgment involved.

In your case, I think the guy should have at least been damming it up and pumping into some bushes or something. Just my 2 cents.

And a billion miles of roadway, made of oil, covered with everything that comes out of a car, runs straight to the stormdrain. You part ways with, I'm guessing, a majority here. And by the way, millions upon millions of people 'speeding' indicates what? Work the system your dealt I can understand, if not like, but here you go - do you send you're 'muscle' after competitors? If you really believe you are doing your duty and saving your country then why the question?

Leave the guy alone. The world has bigger problems than some dirty water going down the drain because politicians wanted something to do. They already have people believing in global warning. The more companies push for BMP's and enforcement, the quicker it will come. Let the sleeping dog sleep as long as it will. Don't be a narc on a fellow washer just because you don't like the number of teeth in his mouth. I am sure he has a family he is trying to feed as well.

Crush, Kill, Destroy

or just go about your business and sell, sell, sell

We were stopped by a local official this year when cleaning side walks and they asked us what type of chemicals we use on the sidewalks. We told them none at all just flat surface machines and they said that was fine as long as no chemicals go down the drain!!! OK with me. Move on!

Hey all, I regret the tri tooth comment how do I delete it ? As far as mitigation areas [retention pond] there are none on property it all flows into the St Johns river. Our local storm water entity views ponds that have overflow systems as any other body of water when pond fills, oil etc floats to surface and flows directly into the storm water system. It was not my intention to stir the pot & regret starting this thread. Keep cleaning & as the KING put it SELL SELL SELL.Regards Jeff Renn :bow-down:

We all post things like this, most of us do. We all hate seeing hacks or others take work we think and know we are more qualified to do. So don't worry about your post, it gives us all things to discuss.

I deal with many tri toothed so called contractors too. William didnt like that comment because it hits close to home, he only has 4 teeth left:shocked:LOL

I corrected it, let me know how it works... 9(err, maybe changed is a better word)

Changed

Thank you !
