My Ford Truck Project

Ok it's a 1993 F-150 with a dent in the side of the bed from hurricane Katrina.
The Motor is a 4.9 straight 6 with a 5 speed trans that usually whines in 123.. Probably my fault nobody ever said I was supposed to check the oil in the manual transmission.. It also has dual tanks with the ever loving Ford problem of gas pouring out the back tank when both tanks are full. Anyhow.. I am thinking of just pulling the bed off of this truck and making a flatbed for it.
Since metal is so high I thought we would do the treated lumber thing... 4x4 post running 6 foot wide side to side and then 2x12x8 or 10 ??? Treated planks for the floor.. And maybe some L Channel Metal down the sides and back to dress it up just a bit... Where it gets complaicted is the back .. I guess I could just use my old drawtite and hook it to the back if need be.

I am going to mount the whitco , 2 hose reels and a ladder and a tool box on the bed nothing else.. Then the little red trailer will carry a water tank..
I know I need a bigger truck but hey I am still paying Uncle Sam..

Some photos of just how ugly my truck has become

I am ashamed to pull up in this.. I just havent had the time to do any work on it , but now Next week I got to do something... I thought I was getting a new truck but it is not in the budget this year since we just put up our new warehouse in Benton ... Well actually it's a shop... You ever had a finance Company laugh at you before ... it sort of hurts... Guess I will be getting a truck next year with goods old american cash..

Man that is one ugly truck. I dont know how you could make it worse. Almost looks as bad as Rons.

It does Have a good sounds system.. 2 alpine amps under the seats, 400 watts , infinity 3 way electronic crossover, 1 coustic 500 watt mono sub amp, 2 10 inch subs , 2 sony 5x7 in the back side , 2 6 1/2 sony's in the front doors and 2 tweeters Pioneer mounted up top on each side.. Plus 2 5x7 horn midrange under the front seats facing foward hooked to a fosgate amp. + 2x3 Horns in the lower front doors hooked to the same fosgate amp. I have the 1 ferret capicitor and a 100 watt high output alternator.. Plus a 4 fuse block for my amps mounted next to the battery.. Had to start the amp run with 4 guage copper.. It will literally blow you out of the truck....

Man this is going to be 1 thumping Flatbed... I like my music LOUD and my A/C COLD it keeps me awake....
Welgot to go eat we are having Brisket with Bar B Q Sauce and Cornbread tonight ..... OOH how my wife can cook

Ok by adding the flatbed with the wooden floor on to the truck we will only be adding 200 lbs. Now the machine weighs around 700lbs ..the hose /reels and etc stuff maybe 200lbs all together.... So we are looking at 1100lbs on the back of the truck .. This aint to bad.. I got heavy duty Springs and Shocks on the back so I am Good.. Now for the pretty stuff .. Diamond Plate will cover the sides and the back.. Also LED's on the back for tail/turn/and brake... My wife is getting me a new hose reel for my birthday and my mother in law is getting me the new garden hose reel. Here is a question should I put my machine Long ways are width ways ????? The cab of the truck is going to be WHITE.. The machine is Red and B&R Signs will be Blue Now this is patriotic or maybe psycotic I dont know... Now if somebody would just pay me so I can get started on this >>>>>>>

Ok I called O Neal Steel THis Morning Alum. Diamond plate 1/16 is 99.00 and 1/8 is 123.00 . The alum Frame is going to cost alot though .. So I have planned to just use the treated lumber and plate it with Alum. Diamond plate.
I still havent figured out how I am going to do the 6 inch side rails or the ladder rack.. I am trying real hard to not make this look like a log truck...
This truck has been with us from the start and the trade value on it sux so that is why I am Keeping it. And as soon as we get this debt and a few credit card bills payed off we will eventually get another truck.. Its like our preacher Brother Tommy always says Be happy with what you got this minute because it could all be gone by the next minute..

Ok I have been up all night designing the deck for my truck ( flatbed) I sort of hate taking it off the trailer but I would rather have it all on the truck.. I did some measureing and I figure I am going to need at least a 2 inch lift over the tires and a 4 inch toward the front .. to make the bed even.. I have decided to use metal stock for the frame and 2x6x8 treated for the deck .. later to be covered by diamond plate. Only problrm I cant figure out is how far the truck is going to drop down once Iput the machine on it .. I want it as close to the wheels as possible.. It appears the only way to figure this is to build the bed on the frame and not bolt it down then lower the machine over the axle on to the bed and see where the frame sits the adjust for height.... ..My buddy says just build it and then buy some air shocks... I dont know .. any ideas ... Also I am a little consirned about my ladder rack,,

Add a suspension lift or add-a-leaf to the springs in the back. We added it to our truck for an additional 1500 lbs of support.
and we have a Mazda B3000 V6. We have a big trailer for the truck. It'll run you about 3-$400 for the spring kit. They won't blow out like air bags can.

Here we go

Here is one pic before the ladder racks and the ever famous Black paint Job.. We are still working on it but the damn rain has slowed us down a bit. We also decided to put a rear fuel pump in the old ford truck it has been 3 years just running on the front tank.. The tank must be dirty because It ran for about 10 minutes and the sputtered and died .. The rear pump still works cause I can hear it but I think it gets just enough fuel and then fills up with crud so I guess a new tank will be ordered next week.. But anyway the truck is a work in progress
