motor problems

I have a 20hp Briggs and Stratton that I got used frome someone and am having trouble keeping it running. It starts and runs as long as I keep pouring gas in the carb but once I stop it dies out within 3-5 seconds. What can I check or replace?

Fuel pump diaphragm. Fuel Filter, float needle & bowel on carb. Sounds like carb needs to be taken apart and cleaned or replaced.

Check the filter in the gas tank. I had the same problem awhile back. It had picked up some sediment and wouldn't allow the machine to run. Ya gotta remove the gas tank to get to it. I cleaned mine out and never had anymore problems.

Those 20 are not worth rebuilding Guy, defective motors and discontinued.

I vote fuel pump, its right on top of valve cover.

Thanks guys, I will do some more tinkering tomorrow. Especially thanks to Ron for the call. I am pretty sure that will take care of it. ( I never hooked it to a battery, just pull started)
