Miscolored shingles after roof cleaning

Hey Chris, who is in Orlando area, it has been brought to my attention that some elderly fellow has been scammed out of a cleaning ( $400.00 )and now the guy is pushing him to paint his shingles cause the streaks were not removed... this is the stuff that kills our industry.

Bob from Mallard Systems is in Orlando

Ah gotcha Chris didn't see the second one.. But I would say that is a miscode in the dye lot when the shingles were installed.. I can take some pics up her in the north of roofs not cleaned ever and it will show the same thing. Definitely a miscode I will grab some pics and post them..
The thing is when installing the shingle, some companys pay no attention to the dye lot coming from the supplier, the supplier in turn cares less what the contractor gets, halfway through the install oops... colors are showing different, some will be more obvious then others depending on the color. We always insist that our order comes from one lot , never mixed. as a couple guys had mentioned in the heyday of slapping shingles on from fast builds to storm damage, the supplys were low and this is what very well could have happened. Will post some miscodes later today...
BTW We are shooting into Fl this week, got a few lined up to do. down there. maybe grab a lunch if the time allows your schedules.

Sure! I have the Flu, and coughing up some green stuff, so I went to the doctors today. He put me on Antibiotics, so hopefully I will be better then, let me know!

I thought with all that bleach that you have inhaled over the years no bacteria could grow in your lungs.LOL.........I always figured the bleach will be the death of me but I will have the cleanest lungs around

The dissolved SH particles can not tell the difference between a dirty shingle, and Lung Tissue.

It is not the FUMES that harm you, it is all the dissolved SH particles you suck deep into your lungs, as you walk through an area you just sprayed.
Your Lungs have no feeling, and the dissolved SH particles can't tell the difference between lung tissue, and algae!
It was not like I never wore a respirator, actually I did wear one, a good deal of the time.
It is just that I have cleaned so many roofs, that my exposure time to this shit is off the chain!

Something to think about, for some of you people reading this, who are planning to go out and chop prices (You know who you are).
If I have to wear an oxygen tank around the rest of my life, at least I can say I was never a whore, and made quite a bit of money cleaning roofs.
My lung doctor (pulmonologist) told me ONCE is all it takes for PERMANENT LUNG DAMAGE.

Once the damage to your lungs from the dissolved SH particles you breathe in is done, it is not reversible!

Stand across the street, as a man is up cleaning a roof, and you will see what is going on. The roof cleaning chemical spray hits the roof, but some of it bounces up into the air in a toxic cloud. The man on the roof is breathing deeply from pulling his hose, and a little bit of normal anxiety about possibly falling off the roof.

The roof man can seldom even see this cloud of airborne chemicals, but if you are on the ground, you will often see him walk right into it!

Imagine for a minute, how many of these toxic clouds I have walked through and breathed in, in 20 years ?

I very much enjoy helping all of you guys, but if you only learn ONE thing from me, let it be this.

Always wear a proper respirator with a pre filter, and NEVER Ever take it off while spraying the roof cleaning chemical.
This applies to your ground man as well, perhaps even more!

Chris I am sure you will be good to go by the time we get in.. I will contact Bob then @ Mallard.
Thanks and hope you feel better.

As far as the shingle go, this could be a case or cases of both repairs and miscodes. I took some pics of miscodes never been cleaned. Last pic (cedar) of a miscode with a significant loss of granules which is in addition to the miscode,,, a manufacturing defect. Hope this helps you out some Josh.

Any Resolve ?
Not really. The day the PM called me, I was just finishing up loading the moving truck, and about to head to NC. I went out there, tried rinsing, tried rewashing, and no changes. Tried to call PM back, but no answer. I left a message telling her that I came back out, and couldn't fix it, but didn't think it could have been something I did. I told her I would try to work something out as far as a partial refund if they wanted. I told her I didn't have the money at the time, because it had all gone towards deposits and moving expenses, but call me and we can work something out. I haven't heard from her, and I guess that's a good thing, since I still don't have the money. I hate leaving a customer unsatisfied though. Hopefully I can make it right soon.

Are you leaving Ocala Florida for good Josh ?

Yeah, I moved to Wilmington, NC permanently. Believe it or not, there are a lot more dirty roofs here, and more roof cleaning companies, than back at home. And a lot of vinyl sided houses. Thank God. I was tired of having to use roof mix to clean black mold off stucco.

Got to love that Vinyl Siding! It cleans right up, with a good squirt of the Love

Yes it is what is called batching. That is why good roofers randomize their pattern and draw shingles from differing packs as they install them. This was done by an inexperienced roofer.
